Hi folks,
I have an 05 S4R with a full Zard exhaust. I bought the bike from a salvage dealer, but the damage to the bike was so slight, I felt perfectly comfortable buying it.
OK- You can see the stainless steel "band" is rashed, so I need a new band and the proper rivets. Also, you can maybe see the "disk" shaped part of the SS exhaust is also worn down a bit.
So, Where can I find the band and rivets? I've sent emails to venders who carry Zard, but no one has returned my emails...
And, I'd like to hear suggestions on how to best repair the "rashed/worn portion of the exhaust--the "disk" shape. Are welding, filing and refinishing my only option?

Rather than vendors, I'd contact Zard directly. They have an importer in the USA. www.zardamerica.com (http://www.zardamerica.com) From experience, that disc shaped part or inlet, is going to be the most expensive piece on the exhaust as it includes the entire perforate tube as well. The rivets and rivet strap should be a snap to replace.
I had the same issue om my arrows, I drilled out the rivets, rotated the metal band and re-riveted it with stainless rivets from ace hardware; good as new.

You and I think alike. I did think of that, but I figured a new strap and the rivets couldn't possibly be very expensive. And, if I did that, the ends of the strap would end up "showing." That wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'd prefer to install a new strap.
So, am I to understand that the perforated tube is an integral part of the exhaust inlet? I was assuming that after the rivets have been drilled, the carbon can would simply slide off.
But if the perforated tube is welded at both ends, I'll have to drill rivets on both ends, slide the can off, and take the stainless piece to a competent welder to fix the "rashed" piece.
Do I understand correctly?

Negative, the perforated core is welded to the inlet cap and slips into the endcap. The one that is damaged in the pic is the inlet. Drill rivets and remove. You could probably just rotate it to hide the damage. I have no idea how else you could repair that. Is it cracked? Or just scratched?
It's just scratched, rashed and a little tweaked, but the scraped/worn down portion of the actual inlet needs to be repaired.
So, I guess I'll drill all the rivets, have the inlet welded and then I'll shape it to fit the rest of the inlet.
If I can't find a new strap, I'll just rotate it to hide the rash...

cut the carbon cans off of the curvy pipes that spaghetti around under the seat and shit.. cut it like RIGHT at the seam where it's welded to the pipe.
Then either have an exhaust shop fab up some pipes and slashcut the exhaust end and weld them on, or weld on some megaphones from another exhaust. would be mega-cool.

The rivets for the Zards are "Closed-end Blind Rivets". Got mine from Ebay seller: isellrivets
I used 3/16" diameter, 3/8" grip stainless rivets. Some guys use aluminum because they are easier to install. I had to get a bigger rivet gun to install the SS rivets.
For the straps, I used a CAD program to draw them up and a local shop used a waterjet to cut them from aluminum sheet. That way I was able to anodize them gold. I actually have an extra set of straps, but unfortunately, they are gold, so they won't match yours.
If you can't locate a supplier for the straps, I can send you the strap you need. You can strip the gold, sand, and polish. It won't be a perfect match to the SS straps, but it would be better than the rashed up one you have on there now!

Ummm....brain fart....I actually REPLACED the original straps with aluminum ones; therefore, I should have the SS strap you need somewhere in my garage.

The Zard rep for the US is looking into a replacement part, or so he says, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.
I've been making calls, leaving emails, and generally searching high and low for this simple part, but it's hard to get anyone to actually do anything...
Please have a look around your garage, at your convenience, and see if you can find the straps...

SS strap is in the mail and on its way! I only had 2 rivets left over, but I included them anyway.
