there's a TON of bad dubstep out there... i enjoy it in small doses, but can't stand an entire evening of what most of the local djs play.

you couldn't walk 10 feet at burning man w/o hearing stereotypically bad dubstep.

I've been leaning more towards Electronica-styled (?) music lately but am still a relative newb..

I glue my ears to LuquidDnB.com and some selected podcasts ....

toss in some 16bit on top of that and im good to go.

* Listening to Derbys suggestion as I type... [thumbsup]

They've been doing it for years out here in SoCal.

And sorry, I bartend so I don't mean to offend anyone but that music reminds me of all the cheap make the beast with two backsing assholes that come to where I work and want to have a good time and get drunk but don't have the first clue on how to tip a make the beast with two backsing bartender or how to act like a normal make the beast with two backsing human being. I hope they all die and spend the rest of their pitiful make the beast with two backsing lives in purgatory!

:end of rant:

Good on ya if you like it, I don't mean to say everyone who listens to that music is like the above.

Been doing it for quite a long time my friend, it happens everywhere.

I was just saying, coincidentally, that's the music that draws them to my bar.

My tenant is into this shit.

Sounds like a shitty video game. Every time he comes out of his room I ask if he got the high score.

I could only take about 10 sec.  To quote Dire Straits, "It ain't what they call rock and roll."

what bar?

A live music venue in Echo Park. Usually only have those nights once a month but it's always the biggest shit show of the month.

Ah. I remember this. In my day we called it "trance". There were usually separate little rooms at the raves where the lesser DJs spun this stuff for the creeps and those too high to move.

sac

/awaits music snob diatribe about ho dubstep has nothing whatsoever in common with 90s trance music.

I asked my friend what dubstep was and he showed me Van Damme.  As I'm normally years behind on anything interwebz related, this is probably old news, but I thought it was funny & worth sharing :)

When were you at Burningman? You didn't look _me_ up!

Dunno if you'd remember Skid (Mike Aquino) from the DML early days (and back when it was actually a Mailing List)? He camps every year with a radio station theme camp called KSVERT - they've got good honest rock n roll playing 12 or 16 hours a day on their stage and radio transmitter... It's not _all_ dubstep/trace/psytrance/acidhouse - you also get EBM/industrial/darkwave! Oh, and make the beast with two backsing mashups... Whats with all the make the beast with two backsing mashups?)

I though it as really cool that they could bring Alvin, Simon and Theodore out of retirement for the vocals on the white satin remix:

Love the dubstep.  You need massive woofers to truly enjoy it though.  Vibrations through the whole body is like a music massage.
