ive got a line on a totaled multi, the engine came out ok and I can probably do a straight trade for my 800 motor.
Im under the impression that there are very minor differences between it and the 1000 DS motor from an s2r1000 so I know it will mount easily enough.I know for sure I will need coils for the additional plugs and an s2r1000 wiring harness.
Im fairly certain that my current exhaust will bolt up (full arrow system). anyone know for sure?
what Im doubtful on are;
1. immobilizer, My idea is to get a used DP ECU for an s2r1000 flashed for my current gauges and use my own keys. the other option is to get a full electronics swap from an s2r1000.
2. throttle bodies. I know for a fact they are different (multi is a push/pull rig, s2r800 is a single cable) but can it run (well) on my 800 bodies? the bike will be running a TPO beast intake so it will get a dyno map.
3. power commander III, can it crossover?
4. i have ~100 miles on my new belts and the knew motors are a totally unknown and if possible id like to re-use my old ones.
not worth it. its not a substantial enough power increase to justify the cost. the big thing about S2R1000 is the suspension and brakes. which in reality isnt that worth it either unless your comparing which bike to buy. your better of droping that cash on suspension upgrade and 999 Brakes.
or get osme 696 forks, throw the GP suspension kit in it and run 848 calipers and an Ohlins rearshock. youll love your bike way more than +10hp.
I agree that suspension and brakes are better value, but if you can do both..... 8)
The S2R 1000 and 800 throttle bodies are the same, at least in size.
To do a 800 to 1000 swap, new harness is not required, only the dual spark thingies.
The Multistrada and Hyper 1000/1100 DS engines have wide cases where the engine connects to the swingarm. The Monster and Sport Classics engines are narrow cases. The engine you are considering will not fit in your S2R frame.
^ that. Also, IIRC, and I could remember wrong, the exhaust doesn't quite work either. Deeper wells where the headers fit in the 1000DS motor or something like that. I'm sure a work-around is possible though.

Not sure on this ^^^.
trust me, the last thing I think about with modding is HP, especially with an S2R.
the bike handles well enough with a GP cartridge kit, calipers from a 998, 1098 masters, STM slave, and an ohlins rear. ive also done the ergo's the way I like with clip ons, quick throttle cam, CRG levers, rearsets, and a custom seat. so the only major thing left to do is HP. I want to get a motor that swaps easily so I can ride one season and build it out the next, the 800 isn't worth building.
no biggy if this motor doesn't work, more will come. interesting about the cases, ill run it by the tech's at work as they seemed to think it wouldn't be a problem. As for cost, if im waiting for a totalled s2r1000 ill be able to swap my parts for its freely (so long as the condition is similar, its all for ebay anyway.) the only thing that I would absolutely need to shell out cash for is ECU reflash and dyno tune, total cost will be just north of 450$.
Hi, I'm in this same project from 1 month, but I include better brakes front, ohlins rear and some little details more ;D ;)
The MTS1000DS engine go straight in your frame, but you need to mod the battery base. The headers from the 800 DON't work, the angles are different and the long is short because the biggest cylinders make it not fit.
The biggest problem is the rear swingarm the s2r1000 and s2r800 engine use the engine case as the pivot, in the multistrada and the hyper the swingarm is the pivot and not the engine case.
I think I finish my project in 3 to 4 weeks and can give you more details if you like.

Above description is opposite of how it actually is:
Multi/Hyper cases are narrow as swingarm pivot bearings are in the arm and the pivot shaft is supported on the outer ends by the frame (same as SBK's) or rear-sets.
Monster/SC cases are wide as swingarm bearings are in the case and the ends of the pivot shaft may or may not be supported by the frame/rear-sets.
Either way, cases are substantially different.
