I weight 175lb without gear so lets say 200lb with full leathers ,boots and backpack...
just put a set of michelin Power Pilot 2CT and planning to test them this Sunday morning...
what do u guys recommend for tire pressure so i have a decent grip on the twisties and get at least 6000miles out of them?
*i live in queens NY so the roads are full of potholes.... :(
recommended tire pressure is fine.
I am 175lbs with gear and all with PR2 front and rear running 36psi. I have 10-12,000 mile in them. they are due to be changed.
Running 36psi for all around street riding on standard Powers here. On my TL with Avon Storms I run 36psi for all around twisty stuff, 34 if its particularly cold out and 38f/41r for touring and extended freeway running (makes a huge diff in how quickly the tire wears).
this weekend the temperature is going to be 54F .. i guess i ll go with 36psi/f 36psi/r.. see how it feels and then change it as the weather get hotter...
how the hell do you get 10 - 12K miles out of a set of tires?!? I am lucky to get 2500 to 3000 out of a rear? (BT016 or Corsa III) going to try Pirelli angels next per advisement but I hear those get ~ 7K - 8K miles
I run 34f/36r, but sometimes drop it to 32f/34r if i know i'm going on a bomber run through some twisties.
does it actually make a difference? probably not, because i'm slow as dirt anyway.
;D
The PR2s he mentioned are sport-touring tires - they last a lot longer than supersport tires. I've gotten 20k from a pair of Avon STs (predecessor to the Storms) twice in a row (so >40k miles on 2 pairs of tires). This was on my TLS which isn't easy on tires (dynos better than a 998 as per last dyno day). I got 9k out of a pair of Pilot Roads on a bandit 1250. For reference on the TL in similar riding conditions I got 1.7k from Metz Z1s, 3k from D207s, 12k from BT020s and the 40k from 2 pairs of Avon STs (AV45/46). Note I'm relatively light, keep a close eye on tire pressure and ride year round (not a lot of tire wear at 10 deg F).
Anyhow, almost anyone will get 8k+ on sport touring rubber. Pilot Road __, Avon Storm __, Pirelli Strada, Conti Road Attack, those sorts of tires. Grip is surprisingly good too, though they tend to be a little heavier than supersport tires. Probably would get too hot and go off if you pushed them really hard on a track. The Pilots seem to have the most precise steering feel while the Avons seem to offer the most grip of the ones I've tried.
today i made 75miles on the new tires... i put 34psi F & 36psi R... the bike ran like a champ...
it was my 1st tire change and balance that i did by myself.. @ 120mph.. the bike was solid! no vibrations nothing.. !! So proud of myself :)
tomorrow im hitting the twisties .. :D
