Title: M900ie, engine quit, I'm thinking electrical
Post by: dan miller on April 01, 2011, 06:43:51 PM
So, I'm motoring along, behaving myself (thinking pure thoughts, under the speed limit), and the engine just flat quits.  As if switched off.

It has compression, spark, and the fuel pump cycles.  I'm guessing an electrical issue with the injectors not firing.

The engine was warm, and we had just stopped for 10 minutes.  When I started it, it took two tries - very unusual, but ran fine for about a minute.

There are two relays under the seat next to the fuse holder.  All fuses appear good, and both relays click.

I'll look in the manual this evening and trouble shoot tomorrow.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Danny

Just looked in the manual.  I was tricked!  There are a couple of injection relay fuses that are remote from the main fuse panel (located behind the injection control unit).

I suspect that one of these fuses has failed.  Of course, this begs the question of why.

I seem to recall that the friend of mine that sold it to me had the same issue.

Tune in tomorrow for (hopefully) the conclusion of this thriller.

Yes, check the fuses.

Also pop open the fuel filler, turn key on, see if there's fuel flying around inside.
Occasionally, the fuel lines inside the tank will pop off or fail.

Bingo!!!!

Your diagnosis was spot on.  Rotten hoses, burst line.  I thought I had checked for responses to my thread, but must have missed your input.

Thanks, Danny
