Man! Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Monster Dave on April 05, 2011, 09:49:58 AM ok - wow - that was scary.
But here's a question - why would you be recording a truck just driving down the road?? Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Slide Panda on April 05, 2011, 10:02:35 AM Why does half the stuff that's getting captured on film happen? Who really knows could be any number of reasons good or bad... Either way, sweet jebus he got lucky. That looked like it was only a few inches of hitting him... and yes, that would suck to no end on a bike. I'd have to think an impact like that might be lethal, not to mention the crash it'd induce

Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: mitt on April 05, 2011, 10:09:34 AM good lesson why not to tailgate on your bike. I see a lot of examples of people staying to close to vehicles around here.

I'd have to think an impact like that might be lethal, not to mention the crash it'd induce Saw a thing on TV a while about about two guys riding 2-up on a motorcycle and were both impaled by a beam that was on the back of a truck. They both were connected together via impalement and had to be taken to the emergency room while still connected. Both (amazingly) survived. *correction: it was a 2in pipe. Post by: strat10 on April 05, 2011, 11:29:07 AM Ive been looking at this a few times. I think its fake. when the trailer hits the wood, it doesnt bounce up.
Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Goodbrush on April 05, 2011, 12:00:25 PM Yeah i've seen this clip and my gut tells me its fake.

Post by: Bill in OKC on April 05, 2011, 12:16:15 PM I was following a line of cars back to OKC from Dallas, lots of traffic and the cars in front of me all start swerving for some reason. Then the car directly in front of me, a land barge, hits an exhaust pipe/muffler combo that must have fallen out of something else up ahead. The thing launched up like a tiddly wink and was coming right at my windshield at eye level... I had my brakes on but thought it was still gaining altitude so I let off the brake and sailed underneath it without a noise. I saw it land in the road behind me in the mirror and a silver PT cruiser was lucky not to hit it. I'm glad I wasn't on a bike or it would have likely impaled me or at least knocked me off.
Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: pennyrobber on April 05, 2011, 12:21:10 PM Knew a guy who had a wheel and tire come through his windshield after bouncing over the concrete divider. Luckily it hit the passenger side.
Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: thought on April 05, 2011, 12:47:15 PM thats like something out of final destination...

Post by: derby on April 05, 2011, 03:02:44 PM I'm glad I wasn't on a bike or it would have likely impaled me or at least knocked me off. so you completely missed it in your car, but it woulda knocked you off your bike? ;D Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: scduc on April 05, 2011, 03:57:42 PM Good thing is that if you are on a bike and this sort of thing happens, you'll never know. Quick and painless. Hopefully.
Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: DucHead on April 05, 2011, 05:16:00 PM That video is insane, holy shit!! :o
On I-40 once I saw a ~6' 2x4 fly off the back of an 18-wheeler. I was pretty far behind early on a Sunday morning when there was little traffic, but it flew what looked like 30' in the air before landing smack dab in the middle of the highway. Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: scduc on April 05, 2011, 05:28:59 PM I had a pitch fork fly thru the air once. I was driving towards it and could only pray that it did not hit the windshield. It hit the top of my truck. Still freaks me out.
Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Buckethead on April 05, 2011, 07:16:38 PM Knew a guy who had a wheel and tire come through his windshield after bouncing over the concrete divider. Luckily it hit the passenger side. Went to high school with a guy that that happened to. He's alive, but the rest of his immediate family who were in the van with him didn't fare so well. I'd have to think an impact like that might be lethal, not to mention the crash it'd induce Ask fastwin. I don't think the turkey was coming at him, but it probably weighed more than a 2x4. As for the video? Yes. It's brown trouser time. Lotto ticket time, too. Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Monster Dave on April 05, 2011, 07:44:39 PM It's as insane as this was:

Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Heath on April 05, 2011, 09:47:47 PM I have had to duck out of the way of a bird on my motorcycle before. Maybe it wasn't going to hit but but it sure felt like it was going to.
My grandparents were following behind a truck towing a fiberglass boat once. The kind you would go out hunting ducks in. The boat came off the trailer, flew up in the air, over their car almost hitting them. When it hit the ground a piece of fiberglass shot off and slashed their tire. They were so lucky it didn't go into their front windshield. Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Heath on April 05, 2011, 09:49:02 PM As for the First video with the 2x4 posted. Someones video response said she was filming because those two trucks in front of her were messing with each other. If I saw something like that I would back the hell off. Don't need to be caught up in their stupid shit.
Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: IZ on April 05, 2011, 10:11:19 PM thats like something out of final destination... I was on the 101 last summer and saw an accident in the oncoming lanes. One end of a pvc pipe was sticking out of the windshield and the other end was sticking out the back of the driver's head rest. Someone got lucky that day. Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: fastwin on April 06, 2011, 06:16:57 AM Ask fastwin. I don't think the turkey was coming at him, but it probably weighed more than a 2x4. Yeah, I would like to have my fowl vs helmet interface on video. Although I wouldn't be able to get my wife to watch it. :P Dumbass kamikaze bird! [bang] I'm probably the only person to cut a full size wild turkey in half with an Arai Corsair. [laugh] Just glad it wasn't a 2x4. That would have done a bit more than 4 crushed neck vertebrae. I'll let some one else try that trick. Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: bikepilot on April 06, 2011, 06:54:45 AM I've only splatterd a small bird with my helmet and that darn near kncoked me out. I wouldn't want to take a big bird like that to the head!
Monster Dave, a similar incident happened in a ralley race not long ago. Driver was torn up pretty bad, but lived. I've had a few boards and things fly up when on the bike. So far I've mostly been able to avoid them. I had one plank hit my hand when riding the TL - made me wish for barkbusters. I got my hand mostly out of the way so no major injury, but it whacked the bar hard and IIRC tore up the bar end a bit and front brake lever. Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: Bill in OKC on April 06, 2011, 06:58:10 AM so you completely missed it in your car, but it woulda knocked you off your bike? ;D Just clearing the roof of the car (a '99 Corvette) would have put it just about the center of my chest on a motorcycle. Title: Re: Imagine this on your bike! Post by: strat10 on April 06, 2011, 12:34:12 PM Slot car :)
