Title: New Monster... Not sure what I think...
Post by: MsTek on April 06, 2011, 02:01:04 PM

Just like the streetfighter, the exhaust is one of the things that is really killing it for me.  Has anyone see one of these with aftermarket pipes yet?

I don't like the picture where the 2 cans are "molded" together...there is another picture in the Ducati gallery which shows 2 individual Termis, which IMO doesn't look bad.

One thing I do like is that there are no bat wings for the passenger pegs...that's one of the things I don't like about my 696.

The old mosnter looks nicer stock, the 1100 looks way uglier stock, however the new monster has WAY more potential than the old monster. However it is not comfortable when compared to the old one.

They do the exhaust that way so they can show you the termis later on, haha!

Will be interesting to see what aftermarket exhausts look like. Will change the entire look as this stock one is way too Diavel for me. I'm having a hard time picturing this bike with a side mount 2 into 2 or 2 into 1. Monsters need an exhaust on each side of the rear wheel!

I'd wager the silencer assebly has the same part number as the Diavels

And yeah it's ugly.. The cans on the 696 769 and earlier 1100s were miles better. Maybe there will be more full systems sales... Or those under seat exhuasts that a DMF'er cooked up.

Wow that's make the beast with two backsing ugly.

I am broke at the moment (oh god, we need to start getting some clients) but I am in the market for a bike I think once things pick up.  I love my S2R but I'm now wanting something a little bit more powerful, dark, and sinister.  So far, all I see is this bike but again, the canisters are really making me ill.  All this chunky munky crap lately.

It also does look rather uncomfortable.  I RARELY have passengers (I have to REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like you to let you on my bike) so I am not so concerned with that but it doesn't look much fun on the driver side either.

*sigh*  I should just finish modding the bike I have now.  lol.  Still want a dark swingarm... (COME ON CLIENTS!!  I KNOW WE'RE A START UP BUT GODDAMN, WE GOT REALLY TALENTED PEOPLE WORKING FOR US WITH LOADS OF EXPERIENCE!!)

I'm getting antsy again.. lol.

I think that the stocker looks as good as the twin Termis, but IMO nothing looks quite as good on a Monster as an ex-box.  Of course, I've got a thing for underslung mufflers.

I'm curious, though - am I the only one who prefers to have a catalytic converter on his bike?

Well, the only true test is to sit on it, and hopefully take it for a spin. The comfort issue might be a bit different for a lady rider. The new seat-tank configuration tends to want to mash external bits. This might be mitigated for those lacking external bits...

Your not alone, I love the way the cat looks with some tips on it.  Im also a fan of the way it dumps on people you are sitting next to at a light, setting off car alarms is pretty fun also.

well I hope Zard comes up with under tail exhaust.  I find it a shame to hide the beauty of a single sided swing arm.

for those discussing comfort...

The new monsters are incredibly comfortable bikes aside from the seat sliding you into the tank. That's been corrected on the 2011 796 and 1100 with a new seat design (which I subsequently have on order for my '09). The handlebars on the 1100 used to be lower than on the 796 but for 2011 they're all the high mount now. It's a VERY comfortable bike.

They're certainly better than the stockers...but not as cool as SF Termi's.

You can order the 796 riser to put the 696 or 1100 so its the same height. Piece of cake and under 70 bucks iirc.

the riding position is pretty solid on the 796, no issues for me at all on them...

i would really suggest anyone with a older new monster to try out the new risers and seats if possible

I haven't really liked the Monster's much since they went to this new-er style. And you're right, that stock exhaust is  [puke]

The new Termi's help though!  [thumbsup]

I think comfort is good on the 796, but is asthmatic from the get-go. The 1100S (I've only ridden the S, I must admit, not a base 1100 - and this a 2009 or 2010 so pre-wet clutch 1100 as well) felt much better needing only the richer mixture of the DP ecu and the pipes replaced with something not so enormous and heavy. But I say the same about the old ones.

I'd put the oem 796 bar riser and seat on the -09/10 1100 in a heart beat, open the clutch up, and spend the rest of the time being 'choosy' over lightweight wheels and an exhaust system.  In the meanwhile, I'd ride off the road at some point and have to spend a bunch of those funds on repairs and get sidetracked during repairing with impulse buying some ti bolts here and there (thanks a lot, 'add'), and have it halfway put back together with some bling, sitting in the garage next to the rest.

[bang]

comfort is taken care of with the new refined seat shape and the other risers.

but...  what's cheaper than a new bike payment is a paint job and some powdercoating, and lightweight wheels for more 'go' and more 'stop' and easier turning.   i guess if it was me and i wasn't in love with it, i'd think about doin' a make-over on what i got for the time being.

Oh but I like what I have... I wouldn't ever change the color of the Tangerine Dream ever!

I'm just feeling more evil lately, is all.

Buy a spare tank and other pieces and swap them out when you're feeling "dark"

you might want to look into the new monster just for the ability to change around the look pretty easily with the skins then.

The new Termis are better, but still ugly IMO. What is the point of 2-1-2 systems? Two cans just looks dumb coming off of one pipe like that. If it was a 2-1 system with that can shape it would lok much better, and free up the SSS. Just remove the lower can.

Something like this:

Right on! I've got the 796 risers on my 1100s, am waiting on the new seat, and am saving my money for a nice set of wheels! I'm even easier to satisfy bc I personally think the stock pipes look great and sound as loud as you can get without needing earplugs to ride comfortably. I've said it before but the 1100s is as close as it gets to motorcycling perfection right out of the box.

So long as the pipe wasn't shaped like that, I'd throw a +1 in too, but that geometric oddity doesn't do it for me.  I think the Akrapovic looked similar in shape, but better, here's there 2-pipe system:

So sort of off topic but why bother to have a SSSA if your just going to cover half of it up with exaust, which most Italians seem to do.

The SSSA is what lets you have the fat exhaust tucked in close to the rear wheel in the first place.

Personally, I like the look.

I think people complained a lot about the 696/796/1100 exhaust. It heats up your ass. This keeps most of the heat to the side and away from your ass.

yeah, it's the headers running through the subframe that really make it run hot.  kinda sucks... but hey, would it really be a ducati if there wasnt something like this that happens all the time?
