Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: IZ on April 08, 2011, 08:25:21 PM Luckily, nothing broke..from what I can tell on quick inspection. No broken bones either. Just aching neck, middle back and left calf. Everything is tightening up as the night goes on. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: 671M900 on April 08, 2011, 08:47:10 PM I think we can agree that we don't want pics.

Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: Howie on April 08, 2011, 09:18:15 PM Since you appear to be OK...how's the bike?
Sorry to hear. Though I wouldn't be smart enough to take my own advice a trip to the doctor would be prudent. In the meanwhile enjoy a [drink] or three, hot bath and a good nite's sleep. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: SacDuc on April 08, 2011, 09:28:04 PM DUDE!! Glad you're okay. Hot bath and lots of alcohol to keep them muscles from getting too tight while you sleep. sac Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: Polpetta on April 08, 2011, 10:14:19 PM Hope you are OK? Hope you start feeling a little better, warm bath and drinks will help.
How is your wife. Carl went down recently and it freaked me out. Go to the doctor, please! Carl's road rash from where his leathers ripped healed well...he finally went to the doctor for his thumb after 3 weeks... It propably would make you wife feel better if you did. ;) ok and me too :) Hope you both are well! Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: IZ on April 08, 2011, 10:40:19 PM I'm doing good. It was a stupid..well, I don't of I want to call it..a mistake. I got out of work, started the bike to warm it up as I put on my helmet, took off about 5' and the bike stalled as I was turning in the parking lot. It was all in slow motion and I nearly saved it but I just couldn't do it as she fell on the left side. Minor damage. CRG is tweaked, clutch is scratched and shifter is bent. Luckily, 3 coworkers were out there and we all not the bike up on two wheels fairly quick. So, this was the weird thing. When I started the bike, the brights indicator light was on. No headlight. I flipped the switch a couple times and then it came on. Then the drop occured. After I left the parking lot...with a bruised ego...I pulled over cuz the brights light came on again and the headlight went out. Thankfully, the sun was still out so I was just going to ride home without it on. As soon as I hit the highway, it came back on. I don't know how/if it ties in together but I'm doing fine. No cuts, bruises or broken bones. I'm just hoping nothing happened to the swingarm/chain because the bike felt different riding home. I could just be paranoid about it? I don't know. Having a drink now and took some meds to relax the muscles.
Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: jvax on April 08, 2011, 10:47:38 PM that sucks... I know how you feel. Hope you're feeling better already. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: Dave R on April 08, 2011, 11:11:18 PM glad your okay! you probably jammed the left switch maybe? a pinched wire now? are your handlebars bent? that could make it feel funny.. be safe out there! you had all your gear on right ???
Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on April 08, 2011, 11:15:27 PM I would check your wiring harness nose to tail. sounds like you've got a short somewhere. It would be pretty terrible if you were mid corner @ 60mph and it stalled due to a short...
Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: IZ on April 08, 2011, 11:16:10 PM P...the MsIz is doing good. I wasn't even going to tell her it happened. She had to know though just in case there is a chance that something turns out to be wrong with the bike. Even though the incident was at practically no speed, it couldve been a lot worse. I was able to avoid having the bike land on me and the car I was next to. It was just surreal. Still shaking my head hours later in disbelief. I didn't do anything wrong. It just stalled. For what reason, I don't know?
Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: IZ on April 08, 2011, 11:26:14 PM Having mechanic look at it this weekend. He just powerwashed that shit out of it two weeks ago. Took the frame stickers right off it with ease with that thing! Yes D, all protective gear on! :)

Took the frame stickers right off it with ease with that thing! Yes D, all protective gear on! :) It's possible that some water found it's way inside a connector. Powerwashing tends to force water into places it normally wouldn't find it's way into. Have had this happen with cars after washing the engine bay. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: IZ on April 09, 2011, 01:06:48 AM Happened with the 620 after power wash too. add one more thing to the list of to~do's
Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: mattc7 on April 09, 2011, 02:31:56 AM I had the same headlights issue. It was just a pinched wire, grounding the hot before it got to the light. Supercross easy to fix, solder, shrink wrap and running the wire better?
Check the steering stops. They break very easy Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: ungeheuer on April 09, 2011, 02:42:16 AM Shit IZ, sorry to hear this.
Important thing is you're mostly fine and the bike sounds like its not too badly off. I lost the front end and came very close to planting my face in the road today, but somehow managed to recover. I was going pretty slow at the time and I still dont know how I lost it :-[. Having mechanic look at it this weekend. He just powerwashed that shit out of it two weeks ago. Took the frame stickers right off it with ease with that thing! wow... I'd be seriously pissed right off if some mechanic took it upon himself to attack my bike with a freakin' high pressure washer.... IMO those things are a total no-no.Glad you're OK. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: Oldfisti on April 09, 2011, 03:42:11 AM wow... I'd be seriously pissed right off if some mechanic took it upon himself to attack my bike with a freakin' high pressure washer.... IMO those things are a total no-no. It's not the pressure washer's fault. Problem is they have become inexpensive and anyone can afford to own one. Along with this everyone now thinks they know how to properly/skillfully use one. It's not rocket science but there is a lot of finesse that comes with experience (just like any endeavor I suppose) It's the lack of finesse that can wreck all kinds of things when 2-3000+psi comes into play. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: DRKWNG on April 09, 2011, 04:02:25 AM Sorry to hear of the off Adam, but really glad it happened at a very low speed and that you're ok.
I agree that power-washing isn't really the best way to go about washing/cleaning a bike. If you've got the thing stripped apart, and blasting individual pieces it's fine, but using those sprayers is a great way to destroy seals and get water where you don't want it. Again, glad you're ok. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: TiNi on April 09, 2011, 06:07:12 AM glad you're ok adam...
don't beat yourself up over this... it' happens :) Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: rideserotta on April 09, 2011, 07:29:36 AM Goes to show why AGATT is important. A 'buddy' at work rides a Harley and sometimes we meet in the parking lot. He used to laughed at me with my textile jacket, pants, full fingered gloves, fullface helmet, and boots. Usually he's in jeans, maybe a leather jacket (no armor), and never a helmet. "Dude, you only live 6 miles from here. Why do wear all that stuff?" I usually just shrug and smile.
The other day I saw him all rashes up and in a sling. He pulled out of the lot one day, hit some sand and lost the rear wheel. He cracked his elbow. Said he couldn't believe he broke it cause he was only going 5-10 mph. Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: herm on April 09, 2011, 09:13:54 AM sorry to hear this IZ...
could the low beam filament have broken when you tipped over? just a thought /respectful Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: IZ on April 09, 2011, 10:28:47 AM The light issue happened prior to the drop.
Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: herm on April 09, 2011, 10:32:56 AM The light issue happened prior to the drop. in that case i vote for the pressure washer being the culprit... Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: Slide Panda on April 09, 2011, 10:42:46 AM Bummer Iz. But at least it was mostly ego and not body bruising.
Good call on getting it looked over. Your funny feeling was probably nerves but you could have tweaked something. I doubt there would be damage to the rear end - probay a bent bar if anything. Rest up take some advil and head to the docs if the neck isnt better in a couple days Title: Re: 1100 meets asphault. Post by: The Bacon Junkie on April 10, 2011, 10:58:12 AM Glad you're okay and the bike is too... [thumbsup]
...cuz it's not enough of an excuse to cancel your plans of coming to DIMBY! :-* I kid... seriously glad you made it out unharmed. / I'm a prick [bacon] |
