Title: Is setting idle speed really this involved?
Post by: Syscrush on April 09, 2011, 07:02:04 AM
My wife's 2006 M620 is idling just a bit lower than I'd like - once it's all up to temp it's idling at right around 1,000 RPM, and my voltmeter indicates that the battery is discharging at that speed.  Using the throttle to keep it at 1,250 keeps everything in the green.  Since stop & go is a significant part of the riding she'll be doing on that bike, I'd like to bump the idle up a bit.

I looked at the throttle linkage and didn't see an adjustment on the throttle stop anywhere, so I did a search on the web and found a complicated procedure that involves syncing the TB's, adjusting air bypass screws, and tuning the mixture with an exhaust gas analyzer.

To get from 1,000 to 1,250 is it OK to just back out each bypass screw the same amount and see how it goes?

The throttle stop screw is just that, a throttle stop screw.  Leave it alone.  If you back out the air bypass screws evenly you will not upset synch.  Worse case scenario is the bike may idle a little lean and need a CO trim adjustment, but you will probably be just fine.

Consider having a peek at the TPS, do a search, if your 06 is like my 05 it's very simple.

I backed my bleeders out a bit for idle joy.

Thanks folks.  The bike runs awesome, the throttle response is very smooth - even on-off transitions.  I am sure that the sync and TPS are perfect right now.  I'm also pretty confident that I can turn 2 screws equal amounts, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Thanks again.
