If you hadn't heard ;)
So we traveled to SC this past week to pickup a 999.
Pics of the week up until the bike can be found HERE (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=47963.new#new)
I couldn't pass this up for the money. It's an 05 Biposto. The last owner immediately convereted it to a mono, did a full Zard system, had a custome PC map done on the dyno (132 rwhp!), Ohlins shock and forks and some flashy clutch bits.
It was getting dark when I took these with my Droid X so the quality isn't super, but they're not IZ either ;D
What I looked at for 12 hours yesterday-

And after we got home-

And lastly, since there was a raging thread about how to tie bikes down for travel, here's my method.
Baxley chock for the front wheel. It keeps the bike upright.
RATCHET straps around the rear wheel, from both sides, prevents the rear from moving to either side even if it jumps up off the bed surface.
RATCHET strap around the front wheel, over top, to keep it locked down to the bed.

The bike can't move and you don't compress the forks or the shock.
It works [thumbsup]
There is a sign in one picture that says Mount Morris. Are you by any chance from MI. If so that is too funny. I am from MI and know that area well. I now live in SC in the Spartanburg/Greenville area. You said 12 hours which is roughly the travel time depending on how risky you are with speeding.
I can't find the Mount Morris sign ???
We're from Meadville PA, 30minutes south of Erie.
Nice.. gonna monster it and go naked? Lol..
Second pic, top right corner.
gotcha. It doesn't show up on my screen unless i right click -> view image
;)
Anywho, GZ on the new ride. Although, being a motorcycle forum, I have to say this. Why didn't you fly down and ride back. ;)
I thought about it. The wife wanted to go and we have a truck so. . .
you know.
No regrets. Totally worth it :D
If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for that beauty?
$8500 and got the oem exhaust system, shock and forks and a battery tender.
I think I did ok.
Very nice indeed and a sweet deal! [thumbsup] Great mods! I either need to win the lottery or rob a 7-11 to get the cash for the Ohlins fork set up on mine. ;D Got the damper and shock. Even got a sweet ebay deal years ago on the factory "S" number plate tail section. My '05 has the full 57mm Termi which I also got a sweet deal on but I'd trade it all to go back in time and just buy the 999S outright in the first place. Oh well...
Nice bike, you'll love it! [moto]
999 in red with the white number plates on the nose and tail is the very best looking 999, outside of a factory race bike. [thumbsup]

Inside of a factory race bike is crowded, and smells like oil.
Get an Evoluzione license plate relocator bracket kit. It maintains the stock turn signals but really cleans up the rear of the bike. You'll love it when you get one on the bike! [thumbsup]

The one in the picture for Ducatis on their website is actually the one for the Tamburinis, which I have on both of mine. The 999 kit looks different from the website pic but works just as well and they are real easy to mount up. Great, semi cheap visual mod. [popcorn] [bacon]

Congratulations [thumbsup]
I'll take credit for sending you the link. ;D
That will be fine.
Put it on my tab ;D

and your ugly bike and those ugly pipes!!
[cheeky] Can't say it with a straight face. I love that bike..especially those pipes.
[drool]
Congrats ML!!
Yep, that's one sweet scooter! [thumbsup] Good score on that bike. ;D

Thanks, pal!
Also, sorry to read about your get off. Sounds like a mystery as to why the bike shut down.
This is my first bike with the immobilizer. I'm somewhat worried about ecu issues.
Fingers crossed.
I would say something nice, but I am jealous :-[

No worries. I'll just take it for a spin at DIMBY. ;D
Very nice bike. You are going to love it.
I had a pretty big love/hate thing going on with mine for about the first 8 months (special thanks to Fastwin on the pep talks and Dp for helping figure out what was wrong with it, cause I was pretty frustrated ). Now that is is running strong (boy is it strong). I have to make myself hop on the S2R800 (which now feels like a scooter).
Be safe!
What was wrong with it?

If you ever have a problem with the ECU and/or the immobilizer get a Nemesis immediately. Don't even think about staying with stock. I went through that and it cost me 3K to get everything straightened out and that was even with special discounts from the dealer and a tech, Will, who went out of his way to help. In the end it was the event that prompted me to sell the bike after it was all fixed. In hindsight I shouldn't have sold the bike but I was pretty PO'd at the time.
MadDuck, your post reads like psycledelic wrote it! [laugh] Y'all should trade stories over a cold beer. [beer] Except he didn't sell his. [moto]

I was there throughout all of this. And while the bike was fixed, and then sold off, the saddest part came shortly after. The person who bought this bike got caught up in some drama with an ex-SO and the bike took the brunt of the damage. :'(
Congratulations! It looks great!
I'm joining IZ in the I hate you a little bit club. ;)

Wow! Careful in the corners. If you miss treat him he will launch you.
^ I'm aware of this.
I was on a quick 20 minute cruise on Sunday. I was a good boy but I did get on it once in second gear.
I have never been on anything that pulls this hard. This bike is fast. Wicked fast. I went from 45-95 in probably less than 3 seconds. I backed out before I hit the limiter.
This bike commands your respect and full attention. Believe me, its getting it.

After my first few rides on mine I told people that if ever there was a bike that was going to kill me the 999 was it. [laugh] Just joking. [laugh] But hell, yeah it gets and deserves your full respect and attention. [moto]

+11ty BILLION!!!
So, on my maiden voyage Duck-Stew
may have mentioned that there was a nice straight section of wide, smooth road that
IF I felt like it, I could
maybe open her up a bit and stretch her legs... Well, he motioned for me to go ahead of him when the time came. We were prolly around 80ish in 4th, so I dropped her down to 3rd and whacked it WFO...
:o :o :o
I clicked up into 4th gear and looked down. The big numbers on the digital display showed 142! [moto] Seemed like it was in a blink of the eye... 8)
I decided slowing down was a very very good idea. ;)

Original culprit was the Throttlebody & Throttle control sensor. Ran like a champ for 8 wonderful days, then.....ECU went to crap. I am surprised that it runs for me know, as much as I cussed it during the first couple of months. I have never been known for having the best luck.

Damn if it doesn't. Other than I was fortunate enough to have the original ECU that came on the bike (kick ass customer service at the shop - they tracked down the original owner, who still had the stock exhaust / ECU, and talked him into giving it to me). I looked into the Nemisis, but decided to have the stock ECU reflashed for the Termi's ($250 vs. $1000).
Man, I can't tell you how many times I thought about selling it. 8 months was a long time to figure out what was wrong with it the first time, and then to have it shut down on me again 8 days later. I was beside myself. Looking back, I am glad I didn't sell it. Now that it is back to normal, It's a blast to ride. It was definitely worth the wait.

Yeah, it can get you into a lot of bad shit, quick. Not a very forgiving bike either, at least from my point of view. The front wheel doesn't seem to want to stay on the ground. The seat is like a flattened out beer coozie, crazyglued to a 2x6 board, mounted directly over an industrial heat gun that is blowing directly on your nuts.
Uh....remind me again why we like these bikes so much.
I like my nuts toasty.. ;)
[bacon]
The nuts weren't so bad but the inside of my right thigh would absolutely roast.
Mine, just before I sold it.
I just ride mine in the cool/cold months. It tends to stay parked and covered during the summer. The LAST thing you ever want to do is get stuck in a really bad stop and go traffic jam on a highway that you cannot get off of in the summer. Don't ask me how I know. [bang] 5 minutes after I got home I ordered a clutch slave on line and never rode it again between May and September. [laugh]
Even with her "issues" I absolutely love my 999. I, like so many others, hated them when they first came out (being a Tamburini lover). But after a year or two they really grew on me and by 2005 I had to have one. So glad I finally came around. As cool as the new Duc sbks surely are I have no reason to upgrade. Happy where I am. [thumbsup] Just call me old and easily amused. ;)

Told ya'!! [laugh] [thumbsup] [moto]
An aftermarket slave is on my list.
Toward the end of owing my M900 I was starting to have problems with my hand "pulling apart" if that makes any sense, when working the clutch on long rides.
That progressed to happening on short rides, then the bike got sold.
No issues with my KTM, but 10 minutes on the nine-er brought back all the memories of "Ducati hand"
Yeppers. That 20-25% decrease in lever pull is well worth the $$$. From what I can tell there aren't any bad ones out there. I have Evoluzione brand slaves on all my Ducs. But they all seem to be about the same price and work the same. [thumbsup]
An RCS clutch master cylinder helps quite a bit as well. In fact, I noticed a larger difference by adding that than I did the Oberon slave cylinder.
ML, Congrats on your journey to the dark side (sbk)! I'm up to 2 1098s and a 996. They're all I ride anymore, even though I've got one of the sweetest monsters I've ever seen (monstermash's old bike). So much so that the monster and a barely broken-in Daytona 675 are going up for sale [evil]
As long as my body will take it, I see no point to anything but a sbk [thumbsup]
I'm a bike whore. I'll ride anything! [laugh]
