Anyone run an AGM battery in their S2R? If so what brand / model?
I was looking at the Deka ETX12 but its about .75" taller, and I'm not sure if it would rub the tank or not. Anyone use this battery?
Thanks
all S2R1000 batteries are yuasa stock batteries which are AGM style. .75" is too much i think. I have a 1" inch thick ballast and it will not fit there at all. i do not have the foam padding anymore either.
The Shorai & Ballistic batteries make the AGMs look like antique boat anchors. I've been on the stock Yuasa YT12-BS since 2006, it's time for an upgrade.
Your bike has an AGM battery. that is why it can be mounted horizontally

The reason I ask is the YT12-BS that is in there now is starting to struggle after the bike sits after a day or so. I picked this bike up over the winter and when I bought it the cases were discolored under the battery. The PO didn't give me a reason but I thought maybe the battery boiled over from the trickle charger he was using. This has made me hesitant of putting the bike on my battery tender. Maybe it wasn't the battery after all? Anyone have their Yuasa leak?
I called the local Deka dealer and they said their battery is the same p/n as the Yuasa because it is a "special" battery but it was not an AGM because you had to add the acid. I've since learned that their are AGM's sold unfilled so I may run over there today and see what they have.
i have the deka etx-12 on my carb'd 900 monster. i haven't had any rubbing problems. my coils sit higher than the battery itself.
BTW pay attention to poles on the etx12 battery cause they were opposite of my old battery. fried a starter solenoid.

There were problems with the Fiamm batteries leaking, though this should not have happened since they were AGMs so there should be nothing to leak. Most AGMs come pre filled, there are exceptions, the Yuasa YT12-BS does come dry with acid separate. Your local dealer does not inspire confidence in me. If the battery is not AGM you can not use it in your bike. If it is and it is dry it must be filled and readied for service properly to avoid problems. If the paint is just stained and there is no corrosion the battery probably is not the cause. Could you post photos?
If you get anything from the etx line it'll be AGM.i wouldnt go with any other one
Here are some pics of the discoloration..

Looks to me like stain from oil, heat and maybe some gasoline.

Battery acid would probably do more damage. I was just taking the PO's word for it.
Thanks
