Title: 696 Starting Problems
Post by: awall41 on April 12, 2011, 07:40:06 PM
Lately it's been taking my brand new 2010 696 (Only 200 miles) a while to start.  Twice the check engine light has came on with the code "pkup" I read the manual and it said "pick up sensor".  When I turn the key off and turn it back on the light goes away completely. I'm not sure if there is really a problem or if the amount of tries its taking to start my bike is causing this?  Any thoughts?

Its new.  It has a warranty.  Why not let it be your authorised Duc dealer's issue to resolve?

The dealers a pretty far hike from my place so if the light is just coming on from numerous starting attempts I really don't want to trailer it down their.  I just find it odd that the CEL does not come back on if you turn the bike off than back on again.

The dealer (hopefully) has the scan tool and training to find the fault and Ducati will pick up the bill.  Parts can get real expensive, plus if you break it you buy it.

^ agree with all the above, ask the dealer to pick up the bike, its not too much to ask. If your bikes under warranty, part of the mileage to a service center is covered.

Yeah I understand - I'm also pretty far from a dealership.  Still, it ought not be happening.  Me? I'd contact the dealer and maybe ride it on in there, let 'em take a look see.

I just talked to my dealer and will be taking a ride down there on Saturday to have her looked at.  I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff to entertain me in the show room  [moto]

If I don't get the fast idle set correctly initially mine does this too, and mine is also a 2010. Mine has almost 4500 miles on it. I've just learned how to appropriately adjust the fast idle, and if I get it wrong to turn the bike off and let it sit for a minute or two and try again. It's annoying, but no biggie.

I had this same problem with my 09 696 as well as others concerning stalling while riding, turns out battery voltage is critical, i had a bad cell and it was causing issues
