So my 09 696 has about 24k on it, set of termis and is pretty much fun as hell. Cruising along at about 80mph, umm, I mean 65mph in the middle of my hour long commute to work and suddenly it feels like something sucked 75% of my power away. Just as quickly, she goes back to normal. Kinda like hitting the speed limiter on a car (or so I've heard ;) ). Felt like she hesitated or ran out of gas, lights stay on the engine is clearly still running. Happens twice but I make it to the office.
Nine hours later, I go to start, nothing. Makes all the right sounds and lights but nothing. Just like when you've accidentally hit the kill switch and don't notice. Checked it and still nothing. Battery is saying 12.3. Put it in neutral, starts right up. Kick stand goes up, dies. Ok something wrong with the sensor so I wiggle it a bit and leave it up while I start up again (in neutral). Shift into first, dies instantly. Wont start. Back into neutral, starts, shift into first or second, dies. This goes on for about 20 minutes. Finally I take the key out a few times and manage to get her to stay running, clutch in, first gear, stand up. Let out the clutch, dies. OK maybe I was nervous, four or five times later, same thing.
So after taking the key out and rotating in before I put it in, I know but I'm running out of ideas, it works! She starts up, I can shift into first and let out the clutch, perfect. That is until she decides to hesitate again... This time she actually dies, four times, in traffic, at 60+mph. A couple of times, downshifting saves it but mostly, I have to cruise to a stop, take the key out and start it again (takes a few times).
After two hours getting home, I park and try to replicate the problem, nothing. She starts up every time just like she has for the last two years. OK, maybe it was a cold thing but it's about 75 out and the first time she hesitated was 45 minutes into a commute - she was plenty warm by then.
Gotta make an appointment at the dealer in the morning but I thought I would share. Anyone else experience something similar?
I was thinking some sort of fueling problem or a intermittent short of some kind. Couple of random, potentially unrelated observations; The hesitation seemed to happen at or above 6k in 5th or 6th gear. Roads where also pretty bumpy but nothing she hasn't been on for the last year.
I'll post up what I hear from the dealer in the coming days...
Still under warranty? I would check the battery and charging system first.
Flashing any error codes? My voltage regulator went out and had similar problems over a few weeks before finally dying on me while riding down the road. :(

No error codes and after letting her sit for a few hours, she still shows no signs of trouble. Battery starts off at around 12.3/12.5 and charges up to 13.5 in a about a minute while sitting idle at around 1200.
Perhaps she is angry at being converted from a brunette to a red head? Ever since I changed the tank panels from black to red last week, things have been odd...

Maybe loose fuel lines after moving the tank around?
To me it sounds like dirt or some other restriction in the fuel system.
Is the kickstand sensor going bad?
