Title: Stupid question about setting rear sag
Post by: EEL on April 15, 2011, 06:50:25 AM
I have an S2R 800.

If im standing above the the bike looking through the seat at the adjuster rings on shock, which way would I need to turn the rings to increase the preload on the springs

please respond in clockwise or counterclockwise from the point of view noted above.

Thanks!

So there a two rings. Just to clarify, I turn the top lock ring counter clockwise first to loosen the setup and then go clockwise on the bottom one to increase preload. Do I need TWO of those shock spanner wrenches to lock both of the rings together when Im done? Do the rings need to tighten to each other to safely lock?

Yes, counter-clockwise on the top ring to 'unlock' the pair, then clockwise on the bottom ring to increase preload.

Spray some penetrating oil on the threads and let it work for a bit before trying to get them loose.

You may need two spanners to get them unlocked, or one spanner, a hammer and punch, and an assistant.

IMO, one spanner is adequate to lock 'em together.
