My wife recently started to put out bird feeders on our property. It turns out that the squirrels are eating all the seed from the non- squirrel proof feeders.
I modified this feeder and it works like a charm. Now the seed lasts for days instead of hours.

Paint the spikes with hot sauce regularly...Texas Pete's or Sriracha
or depending on your relative geography get a .22...
festoon the feeders with squirrel corpses tacked on to base to serve as a warning to the others
could someone please splain me why a bird is desireable
and
a squirrel isn't?
it makes as much sense as hating the dandelion

Squirrels are destructive vermin....bushy tailed make the beast with two backsing tree rats
you can give them a whole forest of acorns
and they will still venture over to your house and gnaw the shit out of it, chew up exposed beam ends
chew their way through your window screens to get inside and wreak havoc
chew their way into your attic and gnaw on all those tasty electrical wires (honey are you cooking or is something burning, I smell smoke?)
maintaining civilization is a bloody and savage endeavor
Fire, food and shelter are foundation elements of human civilization
anything that attacks or competes for the food and shelter pieces of human survival is what is called "fair game"
as for birds, they spread seed, avian flu and the right ones can sweeten the air with melody....
the wrong ones (pigeons, grackles etc) are wonderful things to look at
as you center the cross-hairs on them :)
i stopped feeding the birds when bears started to attack the feeders
we had a bird make a nest on the corner of our house overlooking the patio
every freakin' day that bird hung out on my table and chairs, and covered them with bird poop
they needed to be scrubbed before each use
the deer around here travel in a herd of 10-15
they can eat everything in your yard in a day... ask me how i know
so i quess my point is that the squirrels don't bug me that much ;D

If you don't get that squirrel problem in check fast, those bastards can mutate. Then, you're make the beast with two backsed.

I've seen one of those flying rats before in dem woods....scared the shit out of me at first until I got the 12 gauge aimed right at him. That's what he gets for buzzing my head.
Oh and hunting hogs is MUCH more fun but hearing them scream you'd think someone was being skinned alive.

I'm calling video foul. Those critters are prairie dogs. Pretty much tail-less squirrels that live in holes in the ground. Ahhhh... the red mist. ;D

That's one tits up wood chuck. Nice shot. Looked like zero wind on a nice sunny day. Think I saw a wanted poster of that wood chuck at the post office. ;D
I'm not a tree hugger, but killing for killing sake is somewhat barbaric. I do understand that in many areas of the West, these rodants cause some real damage.

It's all relative. You probably think nothing of stomping on a spider or stinkbug when it ends up in your quonset.

That's the coolest part about prairie dog shooting. It's almost worth it to miss a shot on purpose because when you do it's like half the prairie dog town stands up trying to figure out what the hell just happened!! [laugh] Instead of one dog you now have like ten to shoot at and they are all stretched out as high as they can to give you a better target. If only the Taliban did the same thing!! [laugh]
