Hi,

I'm building a 696 for racing here in New Zealand. I'm considering using BST carbon wheels, can people with experience of these wheels please tell me what's involved in fitting these to a 696 (i.e what mods do I need to do, what do I need to make etc), as my understanding is that they are not a direct fit.

What aftermarket brake discs can I use?

Please tell me your experiences in the way the bike now handles.

BST only come in the 5.5" IIRC so you will have to have new spacers in the rear plus not sure if the sprockets will be aligned.
I've heard that Carrozzeria will build a 4.5" rear to keep everything aligned and still run the 160 rear.
I've just recently seen some Marchesini highend bike with a 4.5" rear, not sure where I saw it though.

What are you're rules on suspension? I see you have a remote for the rear, did you rework the front damper and springs since those look like stock forks on the outside?
Have you thought about raising it with the 1100 clevis to gain some cornering clearance?

My intention is to use 5.5" wheels, this gives me more options for tyres.

I have made all of the modifications and parts myself. 

The shock is the original body but has been modified with new new valving and piston etc., a remote reservoir has been added and its now adjustable for both rebound and compression. I'll be making soon an adjustable ride height clevis.

The forks are also externally standard but now they both control the dampening and both have springs. They are adjustable for rebound and preload, compression is adjustable internally.

That shock work is crazy!  I have been trying to convince ohlins to do an external reservoir ttx with adjustable ride-height for the 1100, and they haven't bitten yet.  They did make a few TTXs (2), but have ceased development on it since rever-corsa went under (the buyer of  both)

that looks good.  I did something similar to my 620(check it out at www.teamatomicracing.com (http://)) and am now getting aftermarket wheels for it too.  I desided on the marvics I believe you can get them in a 5" but a good source for those answers would be fred at yoyodyne.  I'm really big on the dunlop 165 slicks they will work on a 4.5-5.5.  the problem with slicks seems to be that they are all 190's or 200/10's now.  the 180's are getting phased out so weigh your options with care.  that gsxer bodywork looks great.  Good luck, I'm jelous, I bet the 696 doesn't drag headers like my 620 [thumbsdown] [bacon]

Looks good, what will you be racing it against ? If your thinking BST & your pocket book is OK with them there hard to beat for weight reduction. As for rotors I just replaced the stock 696 Brembos with Galfer wave rotors and that shaved 2 lbs. off the front wheel and I'm not sure if it's the rotors or the Galfer brake pads but the braking is much nicer then stock way more feel at the lever, makes trail braking very nice & that's using the stock master cylinder. Post up a race/ride report after your 1st race if you don't mind. I'm sure every one around here would like to know how that 696 gets around a track.
