was spent in Los Angeles. I ran away from home and needed to decompress. Last Friday I was at work and had a fare climb into the back seat. The next 15 seconds were what you see in a shoot em up type movie from hollywood....unbelievable and I could not believe this was happening to me! :o
Anyway I am OK. The perpetrator used his 4x4 truck to destroy the cab as best he could( both passenger doors front fender, windshield is gone etc. There are 19 felony assault charges lodged against him by the State and I have The Grand Jury next week. I was scared to death and spent two days crying my eyes out. This nutjob will have a lovely holiday in state prison if I have anything to do with it. I honestly thought I was going to die. After he had t boned the car he got out and I could not get my seatbelt undone. I'll be honest I thought oh shit he's got a gun and he's gonna whack us. It'll be like rats in a barrel.Thankfully he took off running.....I pressed the panic buttons and got on the radio. I had 4 cabs there in under a minute and the police in under 3. Portland Police were awesome. It was a stark remnder that not everyone is nice in the world, please be careful friends.
Other than that not much else to report....other than my aploogy for not checking in with everyone about my roadtrip....If I had said hey I headed south I would still be having far too much fun! Next time everyone. I went to see my friend Kate who asked me to come down and decompress...
I am home and safe, the suspect is in jail. [thumbsup]

Glad you are ok. You can always crash in Seattle if need be.
Holy crap! I know it doesn't make sense to ask, given that
This a-hole is clearly insane ... But, why did he do it?
What reason, if any, was given?
I've heard cab driving was dangerous.
Sounds trite, but ... Be careful.
BETTY!!!
First off, I'm glad you're safe. [thumbsup]
Secondly, if I had known you were close by, I (along with Sac Duc and Polpetta) would have come on out to assist you in your decompression. with bourbon, tequila, whisky, etc... ;)
Thirdly, I'm glad you're safe. :)
Next time you're in Cali and don't drop by, I will take it personally as an insult... ;)

:o BGB!! I'm so glad you're ok!!!!
Who the hell put the big target on your back?!? First your identity, now a threat on your life??!!?? Please be careful out there!!! And I'm glad you took time to leave town & recover. Be safe!!!
Sounds like time for a new job. Glad you are OK!
!st of all I'm glad nothing worse happened than the terrible trauma that you had to go through.
2nd, I think you were a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Happens too often in life to many people.
The world is truly crawling w. sick people , just so many more of them in the cities which raises your % of running in to 1 of them.
Try not to make any thing out of it more than just a moment in time when you were in a bad spot .
Nothing you did wrong or could have prevented it .
For all we know we may have missed 10 near fatal accidents in traffic each day when we have to be in the mix.
Thank your lucky stars or the one who you worship that they were looking out for your life.
Never hurts to say a prayer if you are religious, each day before you get behind the wheel or the handlebars.

I have to be in the courthouse today at 1pm. I am meeting with the detectives and also the District Attorney before I have to appear before the grand jury at 2.30.
The detective has said that the guy will most likely enter a plea deal and it wont even get to court .Either way this shitbag will be off the street and wont be hurting anyone for a long time which is fine by me. [thumbsup] People like this don't belong in the world in which normal people live. The bruise on my forearm has mostly gone but the area is still tender. My arm was jammed into the steering wheel due to the force of the impact and I have not had an anxiety attack for over a week now so things are returning to normal which is welcomed.

Glad you are OK and getting better. Spent what seemed like a lifetime working in my county's criminal courthouse running state district felony courts. My wife was a felony probation officer for 15 years. We've seen it all. It's not like TV. [bang] Nothing good happens in a building filled with criminals and lawyers. [laugh] Apologies to all the attorneys out there, it's my standing joke. ;D But it's a fact, there are some awful, sick, crazy, stupid and dangerous people out there willing to do anything for no good reason. Don't waste your time trying to make sense out it. You'll never get there. :P
BGB - glad you 're starting to feel better and good luck with your court appearance today! I hadn't seen your earlier posts and while it definitely sounds as though it was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, it sounds absolutely terrifying...I would probably still be decompressing somewhere!
Something you might want to consider keeping on you is a small seatbelt cutter to extricate yourself and passengers from situations like this. With as much time behind the wheel as you get in your profession, the odds of needing something like that go up.
Take a look at the link on Benchmade seatbelt cutters.

Holy shit Erica, glad to hear you are OK.
wish you the best getting through today.
So was the guy running from something and you just got in the way?
BGB hang in there. Was this wacko charged with attempted murder in addition to all the other charges? Glad your okay!
additional charges were filed yesterday and his bail raised....he will have to win the lottery to get out which makes me very happy!

just an update....I am leaving for court as soon as I post this. The individual has had other charges lodged against him and I am hoping that the court system does not fail us. I do not know what to expect as I have never had to do this before .I took last night off work so that means I am out a bunch of money again because of this man. I usually dont get to bed until around 6am so after working a full 12 hour shift I didn't think spending the day in court would be a wise move. I hope he is found guilty and goes to prison for what he has done. He is a violent man that does not deserve to live in the society we live in doing things like he did .Wish me luck!
Erica.
Good luck Erica!!!
It sucks that you're out more $ because of this wacko, but at least you're safe and sound!
Good luck Erica1
yes it does suck, I am home. Someone is out of the office so they have rescheduled. WTF??? nonchalantly I was told "Oh someone will call you" [bang]
I saw the article about you, "Fab Cab" in the Portland Mercury. Did they interview you before the incident?

[thumbsdown] [thumbsdown]
boooooooooo, I wish you could bill whoever is out of the office for your lost night of work.
>:(
Will this mean another night's work lost when the case is rescheduled?
unless it falls on a scheduled day off, which for me is Wed or Thurs. I will be seeking restitution for lost wages/medical etc from the accused if he is found guilty.Well tme to get rolling, another night in The Fab Cab awaits! ;D
