Title: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: Michael Moore on April 23, 2011, 08:47:48 PM Yeah, I dumped the Streetfighter, going maybe 20 or so. In a straight line, no less.
I'm riding along in traffic, and look over at a couple of nice bikes parked to my right. When I look back I see the guy ahead of me is stopped, in a place where no one ever stops. I hit the brakes hard. Too hard it turns out, and the front tucks. If the tires hadn't been stone cold it probably would have been OK, but they were, and it wasn't. I'm fine, just a sore knee, ankle and a bruised rib I think. Bike came out amazingly well thanks to the frame and water pump slider. Casualties were the sliders, the shift lever, and a bit of grindage on the clutch lever and CRG mirror mount. Other than that it's perfect. My new Ducati jacket now has some "character" and the lid needed replacing, which I did today, with another AGV. All in all, pretty minor consequences for a dumbass crash, but I felt duty-bound to report it to y'all. Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: Cynic on April 23, 2011, 10:03:29 PM That sucks.
Glad you're ok, and hope the bike and you are back out on the road soon! Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: SacDuc on April 23, 2011, 10:08:36 PM Melissa and I are glad you're alright. [thumbsup] Stay safe out there. sac Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: mattyvas on April 24, 2011, 03:58:06 AM That is thoroughly rude of people to park nice looking bikes in places where it is hard to see them.
Glad the SF and yourself came out unscathed for the most part. Jackets always look better with a little bit of character to them. Catch you in about a week or so and you can tell more tales of the slow motion topple over. Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: GEEZER on April 24, 2011, 08:43:43 AM Although I HATE those slow-mo crashes, I'm glad not to have the alternative.
BTW, I peeked into R. Herrera Bootmaker in SJ because they make those knee high CHP riding boots. Reminded me of those boots you used to wear. Still have them? Glad you're fine Michael. Yeah, still have the boots, but don't wear them so much now. The worst part of the crash was the lingering feeling of dumb-assery. Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: mostrobelle on April 24, 2011, 08:51:47 PM I take the 'ticker down and you two who have been riding for longer than I've been alive go and ding up your rides. What the heck? [cheeky] Be careful or you'll be competing for the title of "crashinest mo-fo out there" with Spidey.
Glad you're OK. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: tigre on April 24, 2011, 10:59:16 PM Sorry, bro.
Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: Desmostro on April 25, 2011, 07:58:32 AM Nooooooooooooooooooooo!
Sorry to hear man. That bites. So tell us about "these nice bikes" you were looking at. [cheeky] Glad you are ok. Those little tip overs suck! Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. [thumbsup] I thought he retired from the whole crashing thing, except maybe a stroller? There was some talk about having his dangly bits removed... Nooooooooooooooooooooo! Sorry to hear man. That bites. So tell us about "these nice bikes" you were looking at. [cheeky] Glad you are ok. Those little tip overs suck! Ha, I don't even remember what the bikes were! Honestly, it was somewhere between a tipover and a real crash. Kinda hurt the next day. Hurts more when I realized I need a new water pump cover. [roll] Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. If it makes you feel any better; I crashed at 10 mph & broke my ankle! Duh... Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: Spidey on April 26, 2011, 07:47:29 AM The worst part of the crash was the lingering feeling of dumb-assery. Ah, I know that feeling well -- a combination of anger and shame and regret. Sorry, mang. Then again, you crashed in the middle of traffic and only have minor scuffing (to you, the bike and your gear) to show for it. All in all, that's a "good" crash, to the extent any are. And this uses up one from your crash quota, which is also good news. Glad you're ok, MM. [moto] I'll buy the beer. [drink] Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: jimboecv on April 28, 2011, 10:35:06 PM Sorry you stacked. Gland you're not busted up.
I hate the low speed ones, embarrassing as they are. I 'crashed' in a parking lot and got stuck under my bike. The bike was a single cylinder and it flamed out right when I blipped the throttle, and I tipped over with my feet on the pegs; Crunch. Flopping around like a fish - inebriation was key- but there was an element of dread that I've never been able to shake, laying prone, stuck, knee-high to a bunch of cars backing up. Use more gas, just blast right out! At least I learned something. Once again, and again, it wasn't my day. Cheers, Jimbo Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Title: Re: Bah. One for the ticker. Post by: MendoDave on April 29, 2011, 06:51:43 PM If it makes you feel any better I Crashed on the Superhawk at about 10 to 15. One car ahead of me was making a right onto Sir Francis Drake. It went, I looked to the left to see if I could make it too before the onslaught of traffic came, and I went. When I looked at where I was going, the car in front had second thoughts and had stopped. I had a very minor crash into the rear side of the car that had stopped with my then girlfriend on the back (Now my wife of ten years). Stuff happens when you're not looking sometimes.
Fortunately that has been the only crash on the street for me other than some silly parking lot drops at less than 5 Mph. So don't feel to bad. Just be glad it didn't happen at speed. |
