I am cringing just looking at that...I hope it is a break-away prosthetic leg...(that replaced the one he lost doing that same stunt in the past)
Ow ow ow ow

having done knee surgery, not thank you!
Maybee he has metal plates on the soles? That are black... and he's a dirtbike rider normally...
Or he could just be stupid. Who knows.
Maybe it is Rossi?
What in the world...?

Super-moto has hard plastic for sliding... regular has soft rubber for grip.
Kinda like I said above... except not metal :P

Rider in my first vid is in street boots. The one that rides my Duke wears Sidi boots as well. ;)
Why do you put the foot out anyway?

Why do you put the foot out anyway?
kinda 2 reasons...1) being that when you are seated in a neutral position during a leaned over drift turn, trying to keep your foot on the peg is kind of an unnatural position and with the lean angles, doing knee down could get in the way...2) it is easier to step off the machine if you go so far as to lose the rear beyond control and get out of the way....
Ah ok thanks. I've just never ridden like that.
I've never ridden on a bike in a leaned over drift turn but that makes sense for sure.
Yeah but the guy's not on a supermoto, he's on what looks like a heavy naked streetbike. He's crossed up and covering the front brake in a corner. Looks like 3 kinds of wrong to me. He'd better hope his foot never glances the road while he's doing that nonsense or he's coming off that bike, yup.

He is on a Duke, same bike I have, same bike I cover/slide a Sidi boot on the pavement with.
<edit> I meant the guy in my first vid.
I saw a race recently, and many of the racers were doing that. Rossi and Stoner mainly. I do believe that it was raining though.

Various racers do it now, but not like that. Their legs are not out in front SM style. They do it in the dry as well...usually when going hard into a corner.
christ supermoto looks like absolute total utter hooligan fun...

That duke is all sorts of sexy. I don't get what's wrong with the leg out. I watch people all the time with supper shitty riding form, doesn't bother me a bit.

yes, I did...
I've gone dirtbiking several times and just couldn't get the hang of kicking my leg way out there like that. It just felt awkward, and I caught my heel in a rut and it jammed me up some. :-\
But, I come from a street background, not a dirt background.
Like someone mentioned earlier, it makes sense to have your leg out so if you lose traction or the bike goes down, you can just step off easier and avoid getting pinned.
I've just never been able to do it well. I'll stick with my knee out for now.. ;)
