Watching it on CNN now
Just saw it on ABC news too [thumbsup]

I did not think this would ever come to be.
Can you believe it !
Finally , one of our drones got him and supposededly we have his dead body .
Celebration and vindication.

YAY! Now all the troops get to come home! [roll]
Very good news.
Just heard about this, never thought that it would happen. I thought he was sort of like a Keyser Soze. ;D
'Merica FTW!
[clap]
How should I celebrate?
[wine] or [drink]
Well boy howdy.
And now taking all bets on how this will affect policy.
I'm already bored with the Osama dead story.
So 4 seconds ago!!! What do I gotta do to get a Charlie Sheen update?
[cheeky]
Finally..too bad they didn't get Gadhafi the other day!
Agreed..now get the soldiers home. Use the drones to get the rest of the Taliban. [evil]
I would love to fly one of those Predator drones around [evil]

This could be the beginning of the end of major Terror plots by Al Queda .
Celebrate in any manner you usually do as long as you don't endanger others.

Sweet news in honor of all of our troops that have died or been injured in this fight on terrorism. Never thought I would see this day in my lifetime. I'll sleep like a baby tonight knowing that son of a pregnant dog is dead. [thumbsup] Too bad some nut case will take his place and go after us in revenge. Ugh... [bang]
Anyone surprised that he was hanging out near the capital of our "friends" Pakistan?
too bad someone killed him, i was saving a rusty knife to do it myself.
For what it's worth, while this is a victory for (our) morale, I doubt it will impact world events as much as we'd hope. There's always someone else to fill the shoes.
And all the players are much too firmly rooted in their roles and actions for there to be any possibility of immediate change.

Agreed. This is very symbolic for us as a country. But as a world wide problem the terror factor still exists. Cutting off the head of a snake is all well and good but it means nothing if the snake lives on and continues it's reign of destruction and mayhem. I'd love to be wrong. :P I hope I am.
A very good day today!

My thoughts exactly. This snake has many heads. I'm still [drink] though!
I feel like we should get one little piece of freedom back after this. Presumably we are safer now that out National Boogie Man is not under the bed any more. Nothing extravagant like expecting there to be judicial review before our government wire taps its own citizens. No, no. Something simple. Perhaps we no longer have to remove our shoes before e get on a plane. I think that would be the best way to celebrate a good yet completely anticlimactic event. we all wear shoes through security. At least you'll be able to stand there in comfort while the TSA gives you a reach around. Sound good?

Oh, you big kidder!
Again, I'm just worried that yahoo #2 will come after us out of revenge. Cool that Bin Laben is toast but you know some nut case willl take his place and only the names will change. I'm happy he's dead. But I see no end in this terror kind of trouble. :P
DUDE!!!
Really?! He's dead? It's been so long, it's kinda anti-climactic.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that mothermake the beast with two backser can't see another sunrise...
It just seems like there are other puppeteers pulling the strings as well.
I wish everyone could just get the make the beast with two backs along. :-\

dead or alive. terrorism has no face and the mission continues.
great that we caught his ass. but i really feel like this is the beginning of another chapter thats going to suck big time.
I hope that turd saw our boys at close range and he shit himself when they put that round in his head ! [clap]
World wide travel alert now for all Americans. [thumbsdown]

On Friday Germany picked up 3 Al Queda plotting attacks here (in Germany). Sunday/Monday we get their boss.
Wonder if there was a connection.
Wonder if that makes us American's in Germany bigger targets?
Wonder what Americans will say when Al Queda sends 12yr-olds into crowds in a western country? Will they be shocked that Al Queda is still active despite their boss being dead?
Don't get me wrong, very glad the ass is dead. But there are more out there, and we should never quit til they all are dead. We have got to stop their 'spiritual' leaders from teaching new generations of killers.

Military action lead to destruction. Destruction breeds resentment and anger. Resentment and anger are the fertilizer of terrorism.
You can't end terrorism by "killing 'em all, and letting God sort 'em out."

true, not alone, but without it you can't get rid of the formentors of the actions.
Education is how you rid the world of the radical ideals of those not taken action.
I'm going to avoid the Monday morning quarterbacking and prognostications and just offer a quote and a suggestion :
"We sleep soundly in our beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf." - Winston Churchill
Next time you see a veteran, be they millitary, para-military or even "Foreign Service attache to No Such Agency"... Thank them for their service.
a dangerous shark lost an important tooth. dead leaders often become martyrs.
i should be a professional buzzkill.
My mom stormed in the room and announced that Obama was dead and she was pretty make the beast with two backsing cheerful about it. We went back and forth a few times...
"What?!?! Obama's dead?"
"Yes, Obama is dead. Itsn't that great?"
"Obama is dead? Are you serious?"
"Yup. They just announced it on the news."
"The president is dead?"
"Huh? Shit... I meant Bin Laden"
"Oh. You were starting to worry me."
I dare say our next fight will be on an even bigger scale.
Iran is planning the take over of Iraq once we leave as well as Libya and 80 % of the people in Egypt want to break the treaty w. Israel.
Islamic Brotherhood , Shia Muslims who want Shria Law to be the Law of the land .
Our next great enemy.

Symbolically well its a nice thing, albeit too little too late...
but props to the military for the belated clean-up
As for our Bill of Rights and civil liberties being turned into a thin confectionary icing on a 7 layer shit cake of reality,, I offer this Sac:

Hah! :) It is a complicated situation in Iran these days

stopped going to work eight days ago, which led to rumors that he was about to resign over the Supreme Leader's intervention.."

Anyways, Mission seems a little more Accomplished tonight. Hopefully this will hasten the return of troops from Afghanistan - someone on CNN tonight pointed out that most Afghans have no idea what 9/11 was and only a vague notion of who Bin Laden was. Time to end it.
Mission Accomplished?

Not even close.
well that would depend on what you think the "actual mission" was to begin with....
as opposed to the one we were fed
Considering that the 9/11 terrorists were pretty much Saudi nationals....
spawned and radicalized in Saudi "religious schools"
I never understood why we gave The House of Saud a free-pass
and burned down their next door neighbor's house in retaliation for 9/11 ...WMD's ablah ablah
Short response to what could be a very long discussion on that topic:
While we didn't entirely give the Sauds a free pass, there is/was simply too much money involved with the royals over there and big oil over here to allow the type of interaction that could/should have occurred. The Sauds have a long history of exporting wahhabi extremism, and their citizen's activities in the AFPAK area was nothing new.
The mission in Afghanistan was always multi-faceted. There was the part about going after al-Qaeda, but attempting to rebuild the country into something more than a failed state was always there as well. Simply put, the need for a stable foundation to exist there was always on everyone's radar, and necessary to try and keep fundamentalists from rising up again if/when we make our way out.
Yay
