Title: Theoretical Side Job Opportunity - Need Some Input.
Post by: Artful on May 06, 2011, 07:05:48 AM
So I have a number of projects planned for the house this summer: building retaining walls, dropping a paver patio, replacing the garage doors, etc. So obviously money is going to be spent hand over fist. So I think to myself "Self - how could we make some fun side money that doesn't involve dudes and alleys?"

So I gots to thinking and remembered that I do have a pretty pregnant dogin' video camera and can at least keep up with most casual street riders. Part of the reason I bought the thing was to analyze my riding, see what I screw up, and improve as a rider. That strikes me as a pretty handy tool but not everyone wants to go out and blow $300+ on a camera.

So CAMmers, on a purely hypothetical level, would there be a value to have video of your riding? If you were to pay for that service what would you feel would be a fair price for an hour ride?

I'm not a delicate flower, if you think this is a stupid idea don't hold back.

shit... all this time I was thinking: damn, if I go out with those guys I wonder how many drinks I have to buy Ted to delete all the footage of the illegal shit I was doing.

Footage of a street ride I don't think would be too usefull to the rider unless they didn't know it was filmed.  Nobody would ride how they normally do for the camera.  (although you caught some good make the beast with two backsups recently..learning op there).

There are advanced riding schools that do street stuff like that in England.. haven't heard of anything like that here.

For the footage alone?  I guess the price of lunch.

That's about what I was figuring from someone with track time, street riding just doesn't have the same value.

I will charge you one margarita to delete anything illegal I film you doing. Tomorrow, I collect.

Was about to suggest that when my browser (F*** Explorer) crashed. I was also wondering why you didn't post this in the personals section on craigslist? Legal issues?  [cheeky] [laugh]

Jokes aside tho, track time would be the best spot for a video: much safer than the road and a repeatable and predictable course. Then you could watch the video between sessions and look for points that need improvement...

I have been video'd before...front front and rear while on the bike...and this has been at the track...the HUGE difference to me, was I was able to use it as a tool to see how my body position was off and where my lines on the track were skewed or modifiable...do I think this is something to be benefited from in street use? not really, as Statler said, some would ham it up for the camera and therefore not be natural in how they are doing things...Killboy had a thing going with Yellowwolf on his fully camera'd out yellow Goldwing at Deal's Gap for a while doing something similar...just doesn't seem like it was promoting anything more than people pushing harder than they would to show off, when doing so on the street...
