So I was out for what seemed to be a normal ride when I noticed everyone seemed to be going slow. I really never check my speedo unless im the only car on the road, but i looked down and I was going with the flow of traffic. It seemd as if everyone was doing 20 under so I kicked it up 75, then about 2 minutes later I get pulled over for doing 95. When I pulled over my speedo fell to 6 o'clock, I explained and showed it to the officer and he let me go with a verbal warning since he was a biker and things malfuntion. So to my question, has anyone had a problem with their speedo falling but still being funtional just 20mph off and if so how do I fix this? By the way its a 06 s2r 1000, still have a warrenty but not really feeling like taking it down to Indy.
10% off is pretty normal. It's typically in the optimistic direction though, meaning at 75 indicated you're actually going 67 ish.
At 20mph off there is a problem IMO. Worth a trip to the dealer.
Was he suprised you stopped? I know a few sportbike riders that never stop of course a monster isnt 'really' a sport bike.
20mph off is pretty bad
some of the clocks have shown varying degrees of qa
my speedo needle popped off at about 500 miles.
The way I look at it is I cant outrun a radio, and if my bike was fast enough to do so I still dont have the skill to pull it off. Plus I have one of two ducatis in the area and most cops no me and the bike so I usually dont get tickets. I was aware that they are off about 10% but my needle falls to the 6o'clock position when the bike is off or not moving to some how the needle is misaligned
There is no way I'm aware of to disassemble the gauges.
Take it to the dealer.

S2R gauges can be disassembled with i think 3 bolts. you can break it down to the board with ease. However those needls are tricky. Id just bring it to the dealer cause make the beast with two backsing up the guages = $$$

Plus....
he has a warranty. [thumbsup]
Sometimes they'll get a bit haywire, but a key-off key-on cycle will usually reset them.
If you key-on now, does the speedo sit at 0 mph after it sweeps?
nope it sweeps and falls to the 6 o'clock position.

Well, thats a tell tale sign that your speedo has a problem. It sucks, but you have to take it to the dealer. Do not risk voiding the warranty.
