Title: XX9 masters on S2R
Post by: hackers2r on May 11, 2011, 06:43:41 PM
I've read a few threads now on switching to XX9 masters and have some questions.  From the pictures I can find online, I can't understand why the throttle needs to be flipped. Can anyone else let me know what other obstacles I may encounter in this switch?  Thanks.

Here is the offending area on my s2r with 999r masters:

The throttle cable has slight clearance issues with the master.  It WILL work as normally installed however.  I promise.  Plus, the resivoirs look make the beast with two backsing awesome.

these days 1098 MC are about the same price. wayy better feel too.

aesthetically the XX9 is cooler though. if you have one that looks like the photos above you can sand the whole thing down and get rid of the wording and corrosion then polish, brush, PC, or anodize to your taste. its all aluminum. [thumbsup]

Just a quick question....when changing out the masters I am supposing you need to change out the calipers as well or no?  Also, if the calipers need to be swapped, do they mount up on the stock forks straight away or is there mods that need to be done?

can leave callipers, i kept mine and it works and feels great. ymmv tho as u may have the 2 pot callipers where as my m800 has the 4. if your going to spend the money on 999 masters, i recon you may as well upgrade to at least the 4 pot 2 pad callipers too, they aren't expensive these days and there is actually a black set in the for sale section right now! thats if you don't go the whole hog and buy a set of the 4 spot 4 pad sbk callipers! they are only a little more on the second hand market these days and are meant to be a great improvement, especially if your going from the 2 pot callipers.

any of the more modern bikes callipers will change over directly. as long as they are 65mm spacing axial mount your good to go.

As mention, it will go on.

Problem is whether the holes will align and clear everything (if you still have the nubs), and the angle of the switches may have to be adjusted if adjusting lever angle...also requiring adjusting the throttle. Adjusting things independently becomes limited.

When I installed mine, I didn't like the angle of the switches when I set the angle of the levers...hence I flipped the throttle...requiring shaving the nubs....bla bla bla
