I just had a very unsatisfying conversation with my dealer's service department regarding my options for the break-in service for our new M696.
I'll skip the details, but basically they tried to scare me into having them do the first service with a bullshit semi-veiled threat regarding the warranty if I did the service myself and a reluctance on their part to reset the light.
I'm wondering what you guys do, there has to be some guys here who choose to service their own late-model Ducs?
Does it mean I need to spend $850 buying a Centurion:

At least then I can use it on my Moto Guzzis too.
Or does anyone know if there is a single model version of the VDSTs software that covers the M696 yet (I'm under the impression that we have a different ECU on the 696s - Siemens as opposed to I'm assuming the Weber-Marelli ECU on the other models)?
most dealers are ok with resetting the light if asked actually... i'm suprised that yours has given you that many issues. i would say just call them up and demand that they do it for you... if not, then take it to another dealership if you have another option.
I went back to the salesman and he is going to "talk to the owner" of the dealership when he gets back from the west coast.
I obviously have no ground to "demand" it, but I was perfectly willing to pay 1/2 hour of their $85/hour shop time for it.
The attitude they took makes me reluctant to trust them with future needs though and I'd really rather spend the money on a scan tool.
Spoke with Houstonsuperbikes and they say the Centurian currently does NOT support the M696 (and the Siemens ECU).
They believe that a version of the Centurian or the single-model VDST is in the works for it.
Sadly, I have to assume that won't be in time for my break-in service.
>:(
I can't be the only one out there who wants a scan tool for my M696?
The late-model 1100s have a Semien's ECU too right?
You're not the only one. I and a few others around here have a Rexxer device (an ECU reflash tool which is supposed to also have the ability to reset the service indicator).... but to date they have not been able to come up with the firmware upgrade which makes this feature actually function >:(.
If you're interested here's the whole saga >> http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=43335.msg823567#msg823567 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=43335.msg823567#msg823567)
Maybe send 'em an email asking if the Rexxer device is yet capable of resetting your 696 service light [evil].
Interesting - I read a couple of pages of that thread. I left a question on the bottom of the thread about the basic Unit that the website really didn't answer.
Your question is no longer at the bottom of that thread :).

THANKS MAN!
So still no solutions.
Anyone have an idea when the Seimens compatible VDSTS will be available?
Bump for any info on solutions.
I'm happy to say that I'm covered for the break-in service, as I'll pay the dealer to reset the light and a couple of other things after I do the service, but I'm still looking for a long term solution.
Ironically I got my new VDST in the mail for one of my Guzzis last week - installed and checked it out right away. Life is good.
nothing that i've read

With the latest firmware, the Rexxer device will now reset your M696's service indicator (other functionality includes ECU reflash, ECU error code retrieval and/or reset).

I have the same sort of issue, my dealer is like an hour and a half away, and their kind of dicks, so i just deal with the little wrench light being on, but that scan tool looks sweet [bacon]i might just have to buy one.
Unge - thanks for the reply.
Update - the service department for my dealer has come around and is willing to reset the light - but I'm probably going to wind up paying nearly as much as I would have for the service (I'm expecting it to cost a shop-time hour - i.e. $85 give or take).
Still, we past the 700 mile mark over the weekend so it's time for me to get off my ass and do the service.
I may look into the Rexxer for future service and for the other potential benefit of the device.
But the problem seems to be solved for the short term.
when i was on vacation in italy, the local shop there reset it for free

what i mean is the dealers should be capable of doing the reset for free. I think they just hook up through the DDA connection under the seat...
Dealers.
Free.
Dont see those two words together too often ;).
Nah, I mean if you have good relationship with your pet dealer then perhaps they'd do it for free to keep things sweet. And maybe once in a while - as you found in Italy - some dealers will just be helpful for no payment. But in my experience if you didnt pay them the big dollars to service your bike, they aint gonna look too generously at resetting anything for nothing. And frankly I wouldnt expect it to be otherwise. Doesnt matter if its just a 2 minute task. They bought the hardware and have the know-how, we got no right to expect to benefit from that for nothing. Nice though if its offered.
mine blinks when i turn the bike on
doesnt bother me , i just ignore it
take beer to dealer if you are all that worried about it

Awesomeness! It's about time.
I wonder if the pro version that Guzzitech sells includes the Siemens software?
