Title: 2006 S4R speedometer problem...starts at 160mph
Post by: venomousr1993 on May 12, 2011, 07:48:51 PM
I am having a problem with my speedometer with my 2006 S4R.  This morning I noticed on the freeway it was only reading 10mph when I was actually moving about 70.  Once I shut the bike off, the needle restd just past the 160mph mark.
When starting the needle sweeps as normal and progresses clockwise as normal with increase of speed...only problem is it starts past 160 mph.

It is not a cable...I already removed, cleaned the sensor in the swingarm, reconnected all the plugs, disconnected battery and reseated the ecu.  The tach works as normal.

I think that perhaps a stop (is there one?) for 0 mph inside the speedo could have broken.

Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do please.

The needle may have slipped on the post.

Yeah they ain't VDO aerospace quality gauges, they're pretty shitty actually. Mine was replaced once under warranty for that very reason.

Great news..it only took about 5 seconds to fix once I got the cluster apart.  (getting the cluster apart is super simple too.  3 phillips screws on the back, one star screw on the front under the plastic cover and the lenses pop off)  The needle seemed to have slipped on the shaft....I would have thought it would have been master keyed or something...nope the needle just slides on the shaft.  If it does it again I may use something to hold it on without glueing.
