Any ideas on what this could have been?

Cadillac.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaang, wonder what the PSi is on those tires :D
That was stupid though....the Secret Service should have checked that. He could have been the perfect sitting target for some radical.

They're only human, but yeah. You say "that" like you know what it was.

It's pretty obvious geometry. The Limo was too long and too low to make it over the ramp. The SS isn't doing their job if they miss an obvious thing like "that".
:-\
how embarassing! the article suspects that the car's "low underbelly" got caught on part of the exit ramp. i would tend to disagree ... i think that car is quite high - as in SUV tall - and i would think with all the innovative technology it has, they wouldn't have overlooked something so pedestrian as a low underbelly that could bottom-out!

I don't think it sits all that high:

From Wiki:
'Most details of the car are classified for security reasons; however, it is known that it is fitted with military grade armor at least five inches thick, and the wheels are fitted with run flat tires that makes the vehicle drivable for a certain period of time. The doors weigh as much as a Boeing 757 airplane cabin door. The engine is equipped with a Eaton Twin Vortices Series 1900 supercharger system. The vehicle's fuel tank is leak-proof and is invulnerable to explosions. Due to the thickness of the glass, much natural light is excluded, so a fluorescent halo lighting system in the headliner is essential. The outside crowd is only heard through internal speakers. The car is perfectly sealed against biochemical attacks and has its own oxygen supply and firefighting system built into the trunk. Unseen at a glance are two holes hidden inside the lower part of the vehicle's front bumper, which are able to emit tear gas. The vehicle can also fire a salvo of multi-spectrum infrared smoke grenades as a countermeasure to an Rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) or Anti-tank missile (ATGM) attack and to act as a visual obscurant to operator guided missiles.'
That is an RPG waiting to happen. Switch that thing out to the Escalade.
hmmm ... maybe you're right monsterdave. i assumed since it was so tall, it probably sat high too.

Wow - look how thick those doors are though!
Makes the Rolls-Royce Phantom look like, well, eh nothing special. Man, look at the size of that thing. No wonder why its called The Beast! I'm guessing the windows don't roll down on that thing [laugh]
That's a big blower, wonder what it runs...? Prob too damn heavy thgh..
ahhh ... jalopnik claims it was one of the older presidential limos, not the current Beast ...

The vid posted by DoW has extra audio that the on I just watched on FB didn't have. The car in front went clunk first and garnered an "oooh" from the crowd. That should have been a signal that the limo wouldn't make it for sure.
How has this not been a problem before? That limo didn't look all that low.
So he was cruising in one of the hoop-dee limos.
[laugh]
It can withstand an RPG and most decent sized artillery.
The windows are like 1-2 inches thick from what I have heard.
IT just makes him look like a dumbass. Which makes us look like dumbasses.

Was this turning political? Will you have to suspend yourself DP? Not that I don't agree with you though! ;D
ITBL!
The 2012 Presidential limousine promises to be even lower to the ground and thus cause more embarrassing hilarity:

Well unemployment IS at 9%... I don't see it coming down soon

that never actually helps you know.
Yeah....that's true...
anyone want to discuss the vehicle or is this one done?
Were that car truly a "beast", it would not have lurched. It would have torn that driveway up for daring to attempt to slow it.
Boo! Boo for being a lame beast.

Considering there was an "ooh" when the previous vehicle clanked, could it me some security measure was malfunctioning (like a blockade pole or other physical barrier that dropped for special purposes? According to the article, it is built on a GM truck chassis, which even as a 2WD, would have decent ground clearance unless major modifications were made to allow for more interior room resulting in the lower belly mentioned.
JM
i have no interest in turning this thread political. i DO have interest in finding out what happened to that car.
it's strange b/c anytime the president goes somewhere - particularly on an overseas trip - the SS "advance team" supposedly spends weeks preparing ahead of time, walking thru all of the logistics and developing contingency plans. i bet somebody's getting a serious dressing-down for this one.
good point...yeah these guys spend hours and take numerous measures...that should not have happened.
I was riding behind the VP on Scottsdale Rd. when he came to town last year. He had the same car. Plus, the SUV who follows the Pres and VP. The SUV with the gatling gun that pops up out of the sunroof. [evil]
I thought Biden drove the vice presidential Trans-am?
(http://www.theonion.com/articles/shirtless-biden-washes-trans-am-in-white-house-dri,2718/) ;D
They need the Escalade "beast" with spinners that not only look good, but also pop out to blow the bad guy's tires. Now that would be cool.
