I don't make the beast with two backs around. If you're going to get a nail in your tire it should be at least a galvanized 16 penny. What say you? Plug it and ride? Replace it?

I plugged it and it hasn't lost any pressure in 24hrs. I've got a long trip planned for June and don't know what to do. Never ridden on a plugged tire before.

Ask Iz. He's the expert in these matters

If it doesn't leak between now and June, I'd ride it. If it worries you replace it for the long ride and keep it for local riding after.

in my old Monster I had gotten a nail in a Metzler Sportec M1 that was still a good meaty tire....I had a plug put in it at work by one of the techs for to be able to get the bike home...when I got home...I did a nice greasy burnout...I let the bike sit for a couple days...there was no air loss....so I rode the hell out of it for another 3-4 thousand miles till it was time to really replace it.

If its an Avon, they'll give you a new tire free of charge.

I've plugged similar punctures and logged many thousands of miles and done speeds monster's won't ever see without issue, though I'm sure the structure of the tire is somewhat compromised and all the careful speed rating/testing stuff is out the window.  So what I'd do is plug it, what I'd recommend anyone else do is replace it  [laugh]

I plugged a Pilot with a similar puncture. It lasted about two months before I came outside to a flat. So I patched it again. Lasted another month and crapped out two days before a trip to the Tail. So I got to buy a brand new tire to scrub in on one of the twistiest roads in the country.

At this point, I just replace them and grumble.
