Title: salavged monster worth?
Post by: Roush97 on May 25, 2011, 06:41:38 AM
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and have been looking to get into a monster for a little while now. Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I was wondering how much having a salvaged title hurt the price of a bike? I've found a 07 695 with 3500 miles on it and the person is asking $4,750. I realize this is way to high since the NADA value of the bike is around $4400. I was just wondering what a far offer for this bike would be? I'm not to concerned about the damage to it since this while basically be my first bike (been riding my buddy's 81 honda 550 to learn on). Here is a link to the classified add and I appreciate your opinions.

$2500 - $3000 would be my guess depending on your market as it's basically 100% stock and the insurance company has already paid the owner on it.  + it has NO red key....

NO way is it worth more than $3000 and that's on the outside....  (my opinion...)

I agree with Stew...$2500.

Depends on your local market to some extent, but I wouldn't pay a cent over $2500 (max). Know that in many states, you can't carry full coverage on a bike with a salvage/rebuilt title. When my brother's bike (02 M750) got totaled, the buyback was around $800.

The listing price is too high by about double.

I would also go through it with a fine toothed comb. Check for frame damage. That can ruin your day real quick.

correct me if I'm wrong, but in NY, when you get the title certified as rebuilt, do they not inspect the frame for defects? It should be good to go, but with no real insurable/resale value. The inspect rebuilds in Ohio. I'd assume NY would be more stringent since they have safety inspections for regular bikes.

My 08 695 was tipped and the insurance company deemed it a total lost.  Buy back cost me $1200.00 and I had a ton of upgrades on it.  That stockers not worth more than others have already suggested.

Thanks guys for the replys. I'm going to see what he says but I have my doubt since his asking price was so high to begin with.

The BIG concern on inspection in NY is no stolen parts were used to repair the bike.  An expert should look at the bike.  $2,500 sounds fair assuming the bike is in good shape since the previous owner did get rebuilt title, which is major work.
