Title: Some Ducati Manuals
Post by: psychochild on June 15, 2008, 07:00:55 PM
hey Ive been looking for some manuals for my other bikes and stumbled across these, if anyone needs them here they are:

http://pdftown.com/Ducati-PDF-eBook-Category.html

they have:

   Ducati Monster 1000
   Ducati Monster 900 Service Manual
   Ducati MH900e Owner's Manual
   Ducati Monster S4 Owner's Guide

and many more non-monster models,  If anyone else has some links for the other models it might be a nice place to post them.

Is that enough of an explanation? If it's not... I can lay down the smack so you can understand it... and benefit from it. ;D

The short version: You get yourself a BitTorrent client (like Azureus). Then you go out and you a file that have the .torrent extension (from here (http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3787875/Motorcycles_Repair_Manual). Then you run that file (or open it) with azureus. And it will magically start downloading. Yay! You're done!

Remember Napster? The bad thing about Napster was that there was one big computer somewhere that had all the stuff on it... one big computer that one guy owned and that the authorities could shut down. BitTorrent works differently. With BT, you aren't going to hook into one server to get your stuff. You are going to (under the covers) go out and get itty-bitty pieces of your files from lots and lots of different people (users like you). The .torrent file that you have is the same .torrent file that they have. That's the "thing" that brings you all together. Shutting down the BT network would involve preventing people from getting .torrent files from web sites (and hoping a new website doesn't crop up). Or shutting down individual users.

After you finish downloading the files, you should leave your client open so that you can share the files with more people.

That's better? That's my first shot at telling that story.  ;D

'Sgood.

Couple finer details:

Download Azureus here:
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php?os=1 (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php?os=1)

From the original (The Pirate Bay) source, click "DOWNLOAD THIS TORRENT".  You'll get a tiny file, "Motorcycles_Repair_Manual.3787875.TPB.torrent", which is a pointer to the actual content, as swerdna states.

When you open that .torrent file in Azureus, there is an interface that allows you to choose which files in the collection you wish to download.  The default is all files, which is honkin' big in this case, and will indeed take quite a while.  But do this:

Click "Select All"
Click "Unmark Selected"
Find and enable the checkbox(es) next to the file(s) that you _do_ want.
Click "OK"

...and you'll download just those files.

Are you after "Ducati_620.S_2002.pdf"?  Guessing, from your .sig.

I downloaded that, and put it on FTP for you.  I'll leave it there for a couple days.  It appears to just be the (158 page) spare parts catalog for the 620, not a shop or owners' manual.  Still useful, because of all the exploded parts diagrams.  But maybe not what you are looking for.

Maybe I'm just being chickensh!t but before you run off to download that file beware that some Internet Service Providers are being spoilsports.    [bang]

My ISP has threatened to throttle my download speed permanently if I use BitTorrent to download anything.  Apparently they monitor downloads and if it looks like a particular person is "hogging" bandwidth they squeeze him down!

Just a thought but maybe that FTP site that  trenner set up is a safer plan.

Post by: trenner on June 17, 2008, 03:06:17 PM
They'll squeeze you for any bittorrent download at all?  That's harsh.  You ought to get another ISP.  If, on the other hand, they're just concerned about "hogging", then they ought not mind you downloading a few MB (not GB) of manuals, even if the protocol that you're using happens to be bittorrent.  But that's your call.

This is one good reason to have a nice big network pipe at work.  And to be friends with your IT guys.

Anybody have a manual for a '97 M750? I can't find any older model manuals on the Ducati website. . . I can buy one if necessary, so any general info would be good!

These guys are a great source for a lot of the duc service  manuals in .pdf format. You can pay the fee by paypal and have instant access to download, and a bargain at the price. This is where I got the service manual for my 95 900SP.

You can download the 2004 UK service manual for 2.50 euro on the www.duc.nu site I just listed, I've gotten a number of manuals from them worth it.

Hopefully everyone knows this, but you can download free parts diagrams and user manuals from ducati.com

The service manuals are a bit harder to find, but I have also had good luck with the duc.nu site - it used to be free downloads, and I got the 900 worshop and the multistrada workshop while they were free.

If I had my own personal host, I would upload them for you  :-\

In your torrent program, choose to only download the 04 620... in-other-words, select "do not download" on all the other manuals.
