Title: Monster Wheels Swap?!?! Post by: That Motorcycle Show on May 29, 2011, 10:40:15 PM I was wondering if there are any other stock wheels out there that could be swapped out for the stock 2002 620 Monster wheels. I am not a fan of the monster stock ones and was looking for a mag with more spokes or just plain spoke wheels. I think I have seen a monster with buell five spokes before. I would like to sell or trade out mine. Any suggestions?
Thanks Dylan Title: Re: Monster Wheels Swap?!?! Post by: Roaduser on May 30, 2011, 01:43:32 AM front wheel off a s#r or 916 will bolt straight on no change. i have a 916 5 spoke on mine.
rear wheel i used was a 02 900ss. presented a little effort to fit but its not bad if you know what your in for. the ss has a smaller diameter bearing. the smaller diameter bearing is also a thinner bearing than our monster. so i made up a pair of spacers (approx 2mm thick from memory) to go in between the bearings and the the inner radial face of the wheel hub and used the longer inner axle tube from my original wheel. only other issue is that the 5 spoke rear wheels are 5.5in and yours is a 4.5in. u can fit a 170 tyre to a 5.5in wheel and get approx 5mm chain to tyre clearance. can fit a 180 tyre and let the chain rub off a little tyre maybe and it wont cause u any dramas, or u can use a sproket carrier from a 5.5in wheel and flip the front sprocket and that will give u the same chain to tyre clearance as the bike the wheel originally came from. i believe you can also use a st rear wheel. Title: Re: Monster Wheels Swap?!?! Post by: That Motorcycle Show on May 30, 2011, 06:51:08 PM I was thinking of another bikes stock wheel. I saw a cool set on an R6 or something that had a set of stocks that were cool. I can't afford any cool aftermarket wheels and thought this might be a good alternative. Any thoughts?
Title: Re: Monster Wheels Swap?!?! Post by: bikepilot on May 31, 2011, 04:57:16 AM Just one thing to consider - most all japanese sport bikes from the past decade run either a 5.5" or 6" wide rear wheel (to work with a 180 or 190 section tire). The little monster uses a 4.5" wheel IIRC to suit its little rear tire. The big wheel and tires make sense when you are pumping out lots of power (a japanese 600 makes 2x the hp of a 620 monster), but the little monster is best off with the narrower rim and tire. An SV650 and maybe some of the kawasaki 650s should have a sufficiently skinny rear wheel.
Title: Re: Monster Wheels Swap?!?! Post by: DarkMonster620 on May 31, 2011, 05:19:28 AM Ithe stock 2002 620 Monster wheels. Any suggestions? Thanks Dylan Monster S4 >>> 5 spoke Carrozeria Wheels >>> set for less than $2K Used Marchesini >>> see classifieds Set of PVM >>> ~$2.2K Set of OZ Wheels >>> $3K+- Try and search, if you want 'stock' wheels, for someone selling their Monster S4 not S*R4 wheels, those are Marchesini 5 spoke desing and use the 25mm axles that your bike uses; or you could check a set of used ST wheels[if they use the 25mm axle] also a 5 spoke desing ... Good luck on your search ... Title: Re: Monster Wheels Swap?!?! Post by: scooby on June 01, 2011, 01:21:49 PM I have a set of 5 spoke gray stock Marchesini wheels off an 01 S4 I am looking to sell. They have only seen about 1200 miles and are in mint condition. PM me if interested...
