Title: Headlight is so dated.. alternatives? looook
Post by: semicollin112 on June 15, 2008, 10:26:41 PM
I recently have acquired a 2006 620 Dark and it looks soo nice but I have to say that the headlight is behind the times. The design of the bike is perfect and timeless but the headlight, to me, could use some replacing. I have looked around at dual headlight setups, and again, in my opinion, they either look like robot eyes from the movie short circuit or look like two smaller versions of the same exact dated thing thats on there now.

Coming out of the movies this evening I saw a newer MV Agusta and confused it with a monster for a moment but realized the headlight on that bike looks like it could go very well with the monster. Its a much more modern looking piece but still keeps with the round shape that was on there before.

ANYWAYS. Please take a look at these photos and tell me what you think. They are of the bike I saw, with the headlight I have my eye on. Has anyone even done such a mod? Anything closely relating to this style of light?

The brutale is a sick bike, but its just too. i dunno obease looking. anyway...the 696 has a very similar headlight. if you can find a way to score those.

I personally rock duals as seen on monsterparts.com love them.

i find the big 'ol round headlight "timeless" instead of "dated," myself, but i can understand how you might have a dissenting opinion.

if it were me, i'd just start with a 696 or MV light, and see what i had to do to graft it on. i don't imagine it would be very difficult.

i've been thinking the same thing about that light, but the only catch is if you have a faring on the front not sure if the shape of the mv light or the new ducati 696 shape will fill in the faring cutout correctly or line up correctly, but with no faring i would say get a 696 or a mv light and put it on and tell us how it goes.

I'm with the others, what you call "dated" I call "classsic" that's why I got the bike that I got.  Go to a stealership and check out the 696 mountings for the front head light and see how they match your bike.

Personally, I think the headlight on the Brutale is the weakest part of the bike.  Really, really uninspired.  The rear views of that bike are flippin' outstanding, then you get to the front, and it's a bit depressing.

It seems most Monster owners like the classic "round" headlight, and I'm in that group as well.  I believe I've seen some KTM headlights on some Monsters, and they look good, but the rest of the bike already has been Frankensteined to match.

A double round is a good look, too, but that's getting into Triumph territory.

I'm really liking that KTM headlight!  How good would that look inside the stock headlight fairing?  Probably not a good match - that would be asking for too much.

Brownwhale-
That's the one.  Oh yessss.  It's one of those Monsters that's burned it way into my brain (in a good, unforgettable way).  Well done headlight chop/mod.

You want to check out c_rex's bike as well - great dual headlight set up.

Oh, and some people have inserted the speedo INTO the light assembly... which really cleans up the front of the bike.

hey folks,

so from the people who have modded their headlights.
how hard was it to mount these headlights that came from other manufacturer's?

can you guys post up how you mounted them...pleeeease?

does anyone make a dual headlight for monsters? if so, please include some links...

Pretty much all headlights would come with some sort of mount. I took off the round healight mounts and used the ones that come in the box to attach directly to the forks.

HYDRA... Monsterparts carries dual headlights, although they are back ordered right now.  I placed an order for one about two weeks ago and I am still waiting.  Jeff at Monsterparts is great to deal with, he has kept me informed that the headlights are still waiting to come in from Europe... Call him up or email him and I am sure you won't be disappointed.  They also, supposedly, mount right into the stock brackets and you can retain the stock harness.  Hope this helps.

I've always been really partial to the KTM Duke 690 fairing over the Super Duke.  Think it would look badass and if your bike is already white/black then so much the better!

A customer wanted me to build him one of my Ducati-powered DesmoDevil's @2.5 years ago.  Many conversations later in regard to specifications, etc -- he found this particular light and was adamant that it be used on the bike.  I said "no" and promptly refunded his deposit and cancelled the order.  No way would I build him something cool to hang that on!

As for modern headlight alternative?  I'm playing with LED and building something new for one of my personal motorcycles.  Unfortunately until our national antiquated headlights lights are updated, it is technically illegal to use on the street.  I'm sure though within a few years that LED lighting will be the basis for every headlight on the road.  It is really wild what you can do with LED lighting now with the smart circuitry to drive it properly.  The future definitely looks "bright" as it were.
