what a wonderfully detailed photo
With the seating position this looks like it should be the next picture in a sequence. (Yes I know it's a bicycle, but you get the point.)

Looks like a little ball of muscle. I'm starting to dig Ducati's design language lately. The low headlight and arching tank reminds me of the Monster, in that it all leads to a low, mean front end.
I can't say I was a big fan of the 848/1098 series. The cut of the body work behind the front wheel was far too swept back and I could never dig the sharp turn. I much prefer the more vertical, rounded 916/998 body cowl. This looks to have resolved that problem.
The tail section is in line with other modern sportbikes. Aprilia and BMW have some very nice rear ends, and this Ducati looks to follow suit.
The shock placement is different and out of the ordinary. Anything that differentiates this bike from other manufacturer's is a plus in my book.
Can't wait to see more pics. I figure the 848(?) version will be coming just in time for me to afford it:)

Is the front end compressed under braking? I can't really tell if the rider has his hand on the brake. It just seems to me that the hand position is low while the seat is way high. Or maybe Ducati just likes to find riders with weird body shapes to throw people off on the demensions (referring to the midget rider in Multistrada spy pictures).
If I had to guess I would say the bike is under breaking and yes the position looks really aggressive. Also of note, this bike is meant for riders with no neck.
Yeah, good catch Tony - it doesn't look like there is too much more travel left in those shocks. The way he's sitting seems to suggest he's fighting deceleration. In any case, it looks like a different setup than the first spy photo which appeared to sport a dual shock system up front? (Is this the place where we start wild, unsubstantiated rumors?)
First pic is wsbk spec
Check the linkage in the second its got a stacked gearbox ;D

It'll be interesting to see if Ducati will even make a middleweight version. According to an article in this month's Cycleworld (I think...may have been another US mag), the market for middleweight sportbikes has tanked...it's off something like 90%. :-\ As a direct result, BMW has shelved plans for a S600RR. Wonder if Ducati will follow suit...especially given their recent leaning towards high end models.

I thought braking when I saw the first shot, too. Rider all the way back in the seat, front tire pretty close to the fairing, lower chain tight--all look like deceleration to me.

I bet Ducati hangs on to the 848, or the new equivalent. It might not come out right away but it should show up sometime after the big bikes. Our local dealer can't keep 848s in stock for long.

Alright, that would have been awesome. I'd rather not move from my 620 to a liter bike. Need a middleweight to fill the transition.

Liter+ bikes are not that big of a deal. Yeah, sure they are fast but the throttle works both ways. Heck, I don't have a bike smaller that 750cc and the biggest is a Busa with Yosh pipes and a custom mapped PC5... and that's my sport touring bike! If you are a good rider on a 620 you will still be a good rider on a 1000. [Dolph] [thumbsup]

Dude, I don't know. Going from a 40hp bike to a 180hp bike is a hell of a make the beast with two backsing change.
Get a 3k track bike I6 and ride the piss out of it. Then go for the 11tyb HP death machine on wheels
My bike progression:
250 ninja 20ish hp
Then sold for m900ie 75-80hp
then sold for 675 123hp
Then sold for 950smr 100hp
Then added 999 132rwhp
The bikes I almost died on and got into the most trouble on?
250 ninja and m900.
Just sayin.
The 999 has two modes. Sedate and eyeball flattening. Its not too hard to pick which one is right in any given road condition ;)
Ok, sometimes it is.
848Evo is number one selling Ducati SBK for 2011 by far.. middleweights are not dead, just the opposite!!

Good! Maybe it's just a problem with the big 4 and their 600s then.
looks dangerous to ride with all the duct tape holding it together.

You mean 750. i think that's the issue. People buy the cheaper 600 or go directly to the 1000. Since Ducati only offers the 848 or 1198, it's an easier decision.

well except for the monsters
696/796/1100 which sucks IMO. the 796 needs to be a 904 to make it a true middleweight

No, the article referenced 600s since they were discussing why BMW had decided not to build a
600 sportbike.
Suzuki is the only manufacturer that even makes a 750 sportbike.
Is this it? The arse elooks like a gsx...I liked the other 1098/1198 arse better
