I desperately need to do the 12k maint on my 748. I'm long overdue and the bike is really pissed at me for not doing it on time. Here's a list of the stuff I need and want to do:
replace timing belts
replace brake fluid and clutch fluid
change coolant
check play in steering bearings
check wheel hub bearings
check rear wheel rubber cush drive damper
check fuel tank and convert to external fuel filter
change front fork oil
re-tighten nuts, bolts, and fasteners
rocker arm check for flaking
reset TPS/throttle balance/CO levels
check battery fluid levels
upgrade the reg/rec/alt/battery cables
remove/check/clean & refit clutch plates
change oil & filter
clean the small screw-in oil filter
clean/replace air filters
clean, clean, and more cleaning as work gets done
maybe do the kickstand bypass
maybe replace or fix the light/turn switch (high beam switch gets stuck most of the time)
brake pad/caliper/rotor check
check/lube chain/sprockets
I know the shim kit for the valve adjustment is super expensive and most people don't have it laying around, but I can rent it from http://www.ducatitoolrental.com/index-6.html (http://www.ducatitoolrental.com/index-6.html) as well as some other specialty tools if needed.
I was a car mechanic for 10+ years so I'd prefer to do all this myself, but I don't have the tools and equipment. If someone local can help me out, I'd be willing to pay! If I have to, I'll just take it somewhere for the regular 12K maint and tell them to also pull the cams and check for rocker flaking as well while the t-belts get done. Then I'll do the rest myself after that. Really needs to be done soon! I'm already overdue :(

I think that you can pretty much do all the work you listed except for TPS, belts and valves without specific tools.
I would get a shop to take care of that and then do the rest myself. [thumbsup]
I have the stuff to do the TPS and probably the t-belts too, plus I can rent the tools for the valve adjustment. The stuff I need to "borrow" is more like general shop tools, air tools, lift, tools for the front shock oil, and a person with good bike knowledge and Ducati knowledge looking over my shoulder to make sure I don't screw something up. The dry slipper clutches are a new thing to me as is the desmo valve system and other things that I feel pretty confident that I have a solid understanding of, but actually getting in and ripping them apart is totally different. I'd prefer to have someone there to keep me from doing something stupid that also has the shop and tools.

all I can say, the 4 valve'rs aren't as easy as the 2 valve'rs and may require some attention in a more detailed nature...also, while in there, that generation is prone to rocker flaking and that may be something you want to pay someone who is more familiar with the drivetrain for to address and inspect those aspects of issue....not saying you aren't capable....just that you may want a specialist in this particular case...
+1. Much of what you have listed there is pretty simple and doesn't need anything too special. Rear stand and a chain tool... for a lot until we get to the forks and valves.
Pulling off the front end is going to take a bit of time and effort...
And then the valves. The DesmoQuatro heads are a PITA to work in... so you'll be at it for a while, even if everything goes well. You might need to find a spot where you can leave the bike, gutted, for a bit of a stay.
We're going to have a garage day here shortly up at my place in northeast Balmer. I can't handle all of the things on your list, but we can tackle a lot of it. Get in touch with Matt on FB though, there's a local guy that can bang out the more complex stuff.

2XLR8U - sent Matt a message on FB but haven't heard back yet. Will give it a little more time.
Trying to get the valve adjustment, check for rocker flaking (and get new rockers, and possibly cams too, if needed), t-belts, and fork oil changed ASAP. I can do the rest at the shop here on base with the tools they have available.

I don't know the guy that well other than one ride and a dinner where we didn't talk much. Matt (Blackboar on here but rarely posts) knows him far better. I didn't want to volunteer his services, plus he's a pretty private guy. Definitely knows his shit and is well equipped with Duc tools though.

Ok, got info for the local guy who works on Ducs. His name is Mike Brown if any of you know him. I have his # and will be calling soon. He said he has all the tools and shims necessary to do the work I want. I guess he expressed interest in doing a "tech day" with several bikes if anyone's interested. Just the fact that he has the shim kit tells me that he means business and should know his stuff. I'm gonna try to make arrangements for either this weekend coming up or the following weekend. Let me know if you wanted to join for a "tech day" and I'll pass that info on to him.

I have the tools and parts to do belts, valve adjustments FI set up and most other service need for Ducs. I do have a complete shim kit and most of special tool need to do scheduled servicings. They're expensive so I've been buying them on an as needed basis.
I also have a No Mar tire machine so I now do tires too.

Interested, I have belts and valves coming up for check on my 2001 M750.
Just let me know when you're ready and we can work out a schedule. I only take in one bike at a time and generaly take 2-3 days of days to complete a 2v service.
