This morning at all of 3:30am when I went out to start my 09 1100 to go to work the headlight didn't come on. i turned the key back off and then on again and still nothing. the second time the check engine light came on and I noticed the the taillight was not coming on either. I checked the connections briefly and they all seem intact. the brake light still comes on and the turn signals still work. any ideas? tia

fuse
While I agree to check them, the tail/brake lights are on the same circuit as the turns... so if they're working...

Just checked my wiring diagram for my 695 and they are, can't say concretely for other bikes.
it was the fuse. the head and tail lights are on the same circuit on the m1100. that just goes to show how long it has been since I have had a blown fuse, since it didn't even occur to me to check them in the first place. thanks everyone.
going back i think i had a situation where the brake light worked and the head/tail light didnt.
check the second fuse. i think the brake light is on the 5th and separate
EDIT: [thumbsup]
Well there is a short somewhere. I went thru 4 fuses last week and only rode 3 days. I have it at the local shop right now (since sat) and the have yet to locate the problem. they said the harness looks good so the want to check the headlight unit it's self. I am missing out on some good riding weather right now.....
do you have a short tail on it?
check the plate light plugs. i had mine ground out on the metal of the short tail until i wrapped them with tape.
