Title: Bike pulling with clutch disengaged
Post by: psycledelic on June 07, 2011, 11:50:07 PM
My S2R800 (wet clutch) has developed an annoying habit. When I put it in first gear after starting the bike up, it tries pulling while I have the clutch lever in.  Started out as just a stall every couple of starts ups.  Then moved on to stalling every time I knock it into first gear.  Now, the bike is starting to lunge forward (sometimes pretty violently).  It is somewhat annoying, very embarrassing, and seems to be moving towards borderline dangerous.  Any idea as to what is going on and how I go about fixing it?  Any help would be appreciated.

I'd start with bleeding the clutch.

Try bleeding the clutch first.  After, you can try turning the adjusting screw on the lever to ensure proper engagement and disengagement.

Better also look under your clutch slave (next to your shifter) to see if its leaking. You dont want brake fluid to corrode your paint.

Cool, I will check for a leak, and if nessessary, move on to bleeding the line.  Hopefully it will help.  Thanks for the help.

if fluid is more than 2 years old change it as that also helps firm up the lever and clutch by removing water in the fluid ,

My clutch master cylinder was leaking last fall when my bike did the exact same thing.

What would you do about a leaky slave cylinder?  Would it just be that o ring that seats between it and the case, or is it new slave cylinder time (oh shucks :))

The older slaves were rebuildable, I think 2000 and older.  The newer slaves are not.

What Howie said, the rebuild isn't difficult either.  I've got a 99 that I rebuilt.  Kit was around $40-$50 from Ducati.

The seal for the slave was about $12 the last time I bought one.

What kit?
