Title: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 08, 2011, 08:11:42 PM O.k sorry for putting a new topic...lol ;D
Monster 1995 m900 (corse special edition ...at least that what the guy told me at the store..lol) I've just receive some clip ons that I ordered from Monsterparts Yéééééé [thumbsup] [Dolph] apex 50mm ( i like the racing position and i accustomed to it ) whit no rise..... http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/APEX1/Bars-Mirrors/APEX1.html Looking at theses thing's I said to myself wow there pretty slim and the bolts are really small... :-\ I intend to install them below the upper triple tree is this a god idea??? Did anyone add issues whit those ( security) ??? I mean, I know that I don't put most of my weight on them but will it hold?? [roll] Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 08, 2011, 08:25:15 PM locktite and yes they will hold fine. I have them on my bike and went down at the track with them.
Josh Haynes's AMA Team was there and his mechanic had a file on hand (hell id be surprised if they didnt!)Ended up finishing off the edge to be smooth and went back out there the next session. Swapped the clip on tube for a new one when i got home. Clip ons are holding up fine. Im just curious how you installed them under the triple. Most people have problems with that because they dont have a garage or proper tools to drop the front or have a hard time removing the triple... actually, your photo is what I exacly want to do ;D but not enterely sure how they did it... I dont have the bike rigth now ( i'm getting it back maybe at the start of next week) I'm probebly using the wrong term ...here And what do you mean i have to have garage to do that ??? ...it sem's to me that i only add to take the clip on bolt and put them togeter on the front shoks ??? Or I did my blond thing of buying stuff that dont work [bang]...lol ;D Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 08, 2011, 08:51:32 PM nope, apparently i pulled the blonde thing and didnt realize that you have the 2 piece design. :P
I have the risers ones that are 1 piece. If you dont have the 2 piece design, then you have to drop the forks, or remove the top triple. The top triple requires some finesse to remove properly. But thats more info then you need to know cause you dont need to deal with that. And when you mean "exactly" i hope you dont intend on laying the bike on its side! if you are going to do that, i highly recommend some proper gear. ;D Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 08, 2011, 08:59:34 PM Yess, i have the two peace desing :)
and yess i did my blond thing becose the instruction where at the bottom of the box :-[ .... and no, i dont whant to drop it (never say never [bow_down]) thanks for all the advice... [thumbsup] I'll erase the topic tomorow becose i'm to ashemed becose I add the instructions [roll] [bang] [laugh]...lol see you on another topic soon :) Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 08, 2011, 09:17:35 PM ahahaha, no need to delete the thread i think. its not that bad. Win still goes to Ms.Tek for flushing the key down her toilet. Sorry Ms.Tek ;D
Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 08, 2011, 09:32:21 PM Ok i let it here but can we change the subject of the topic to " the stupidest I've done concerning my bike???"
;D [clap] Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 08, 2011, 09:53:15 PM if this is the stupidest thing you've done, then you must be very smart. [beer]
Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: Twizted on June 09, 2011, 02:20:46 AM Stupid is when you spend 15 minutes trying to figure out why your bike keeps stalling then look down and realize your kick stand is down. Would have been ok if I was not parked in the city with about 30 onlookers (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/Smileys/New_Smile/icon_redface.gif)
Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: blackozone on June 09, 2011, 07:39:17 AM I installed these exact clip-ons on my 2002 M620 just about a month ago. The installation is pretty straightforward (I also drilled the mounting holes for the controls and it's all holding up very well). However, I did run into a couple of issues concerning fitment for the brake/clutch master cylinders. My bike uses the coffin-style reservoirs and they took up too much space and hit the headlight brackets. I ended up making a custom bracket out of aluminum strips to drop the headlight down a bit so the brake lines would clear. I'm not sure if this will be a problem for your bike or not.
Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 09, 2011, 07:41:34 AM that is a common problem with no rise clip ons, not just with apex. there are spacers designed to fix this issue.
http://www.monsterparts.com/p/ADAP/Clip-On+Spacer+Kit.html (http://www.monsterparts.com/p/ADAP/Clip-On+Spacer+Kit.html) youll also want to look into how to remove the grips, and at that, it might be a good idea to get new grips on because without an air compressor, its not that easy nor clean if you use some of the other methods. and then you might want to reroute the throttle cable because its probably way to long now. yea this doesnt stop. its just one big mess after another! Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 09, 2011, 08:30:47 AM For me lowering the headlight + brackets was a given ( my brother a machinist, he told me that he will make the brackets for me :-* ..lol ;D)...actually I've tried to put the bars upside down but i add some clearance issue's mainly it was the master cylinder from the clutch that was touching the triple head [bang]...that's the reason why I bought the clip on's. because I tough those Lever's reservoirs would be further and it would not touch the triple head.
As for the grip's I've inserted a screwdriver whit some kitchen soap and it when Right off [thumbsup] ....O.k. whit a little effort [roll] ;D What is exactly coffin style reservoir?? :-\ Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: Twizted on June 09, 2011, 06:15:25 PM Coffin style reservoirs -
(http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-technical-articles/bleeding-motorcycle-brakes/front-brake-reservoir-after.jpg) Pee cup style - (http://www.ducati-products.com/acatalog/Ducati_Aprilia_Reservoir_22604_sml.JPG) Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 09, 2011, 06:30:19 PM Ok, I have the pee cup style...without the pee [laugh] but the coffin style photo doesn't show?? do you have another photo because I'm very curious ?? :-\ :)
Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 09, 2011, 06:33:19 PM google women!!!! google!!!
can we get pics of your bike??? Im curious what other mods people have done to it. Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 18, 2011, 07:51:35 PM Ok.... I've put the clip on's on the bike ;D and it look awesome!! [drool] [thumbsup] (photo's.. maybe tomorrow.....) and it fell so much better... [Dolph] [clap] I just can Wait to try it!!
One thing that i didn't thought about is the choke....on y monster 1995 m900 the choke is on the steering nut..grrrrr [bang] so how can I deal whit that??? is there somebody that add the same problem??? I thought, I could dissemble the choke to take it out of there ...but I still need the choke...is it possible to place it somewere else and how I do that??? :-\ Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 19, 2011, 01:10:14 PM remove it, get a cable, relocate it. done
you are getting to the point where you are asking questions that have very simple answers, which is simply, why not? Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 19, 2011, 03:16:12 PM I actually knew that I add to get another cable and relocate it ...that was a given ;) what i was asking is "where is a proper place to relocate it??" ;D [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 19, 2011, 05:28:18 PM So, here's a photo of my bike to give everyone an idea.... ;D [thumbsup] [Dolph]
(http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l517/jfran745218/100_0924-1.jpg) but im left whit some leftovers ( choke) (http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l517/jfran745218/100_0923-1.jpg) and a better view... (http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l517/jfran745218/100_0921.jpg) Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ungeheuer on June 19, 2011, 07:06:14 PM Maybe keep a look out on ebay for a used Ducati M696 left handlebar switch assembly - the M696 has its choke/fast idle lever integrated with the switch assembly.

and also sorry for the IZ_ pic ...here it is again [thumbsup] (http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l517/jfran745218/100_0924-2.jpg) I dont realy like the big speedometer ....proebly gona get someting from motogadget..lol ;D Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 20, 2011, 09:05:06 AM is that a Frankenstein 900?
cause i swear there was 2 rotors on all the monsters except the 750 and 620 at some point. Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 20, 2011, 11:01:59 AM If your talking about the brake calliper and rotor at the front ...I think that the guy WHO sold it to the dealer took it out..... [thumbsdown] he probably needed the money to put it on the road ... [laugh] Immatriculation cost is very high in Quebec ;D it goes up to 1400$ a years + insurance cost.... [thumbsdown] [bang]
I've notice when that the rear brake rotor is beyond spec use ( I use my micrometer) So the guy probably used more of the rear than the front [roll] and he add probably has the biggest "chiken strip" that I've ever seen. I used a hole inch further on each side of the tire [laugh] I didn't notice it till I got home and saw some photo's of the 900...... So I have to get a new caliper and a front rotor + cable!! [bang] Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 20, 2011, 11:20:27 AM What a lemon !!! but it's a beautiful lemon ..lol ;D So total coast that I wasn't supposed to put on the bike : ( yes, I work in a bank I always keep track of thing's ) - Ignition module [bang] ...fond it on eBay 160$ [thumbsup] - battery ... because I'm a girl and when someting doesn't work we buy another battery...lol ;D [cheeky] 115$ - K & N crankcase vent filter 30$ - new signals light 50$ -Used starter motor 150$ + 4.8 hours at the dealer 400$ + 350$ of transport for the bike ( It was on warranty so I didn't have to pay it... [clap] [bow_down] ) + now brake caliper + cables+ rotor maybe around 700$ So total cost = 1955$ ....wow !!! [bang] I would've buy some high class higheels, get my nail's done + a handbag whit all that money ....lol ;D Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: He Man on June 20, 2011, 01:27:57 PM the wheel and fork has to accept the new rotor as well. That is if he didnt crash the front end of the bike, and swapped the wheel forks and calipers from a lesser monster.
Just to say though, if you are going to buy parts for this bike you might as well upgrade, otherwise you are really cheating yourself out because it seems like you could of bought a no issue bike for much cheaper. than scattering of parts. Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ungeheuer on June 20, 2011, 05:45:31 PM ....I dont realy like the big speedometer .... A speedo calibrated in MPH too ???.... And since Canada uses sensible units of measurement I'm guessing this bike originated south of the border?Title: Re: Clip-ons from Apex one's Post by: ducatigirl100 on June 20, 2011, 06:30:11 PM That's what I've guess to... probably from the south....but it was a long time ago because the ancient owner was in Quebec.
