Title: Would like to start a southern California Ducati riding group..anyone interested
Post by: MonsterInDark on June 10, 2011, 09:07:30 AM
So as i read through the forums Ive noticed that a lot of guys seem to be in my area, i pass a lot of Ducati's on my weekend rides and we always exchange the courteous hand signal or head nod and go on about my way. I LOVE riding my bike and all the emotions that go with it....not to mention i like the brotherhood the a person unknowingly joins when he/she first turns that key and cracks open the throttle on their Ducati, i know you all know what i mean, and thats what brings us all together here on the boards, to get our riding fix during the work hours of the day when we would much rather be throwing our bikes through some twisties, or having a drink out at Neptune's watching the waves and bikes roll by. So i am looking for some fun laid back people that might want to form a little riding club in my area....nothing crazy...just a bunch of like minded non-competitive people that enjoy life and riding and would like some company on those journeys no age is to young nor to old!....If we get enough people and enough interest then maybe we can come up with some name for the club or something....so just let me know if any of you guys would be interested!!!  [Dolph]

Its all about making new friends, and lasting memories!!  ;D

I think it's an official Ducati club.

http://www.socaldmc.com/ (http://www.socaldmc.com/)

They sometimes setup rides and have a weekly pub meeting on Wed in Santa Monica:

Sorry, but SOCALDMC is a bit of a joke.  I joined and never heard of a ride other than the annual Turkey Day.

You'll get much more activity out of the Socal group here on the forum, though probably no more than a dozen of that group actually ever go on rides  [laugh]

Just noticed that you are in TO!!  Bacon Junkie is in Moorpark, I'm in Santa Paula.

well we should get together some weekend and go for a ride....
I signed up to join the socalDMC just because it looks like it could be fun if people actually would ride....
But sense were so close to each other we should definately get together... where do you guys usually go? Im ashamed to say that im a snake junkie myself...there is just something about that strip of road that makes me want to come back for more....and actually i have 3 buddies that ride GSXR's that ride with me alot and they ride through the last sweeper together and there is always a photographer there that takes pictures....it would be sick to get three monsters coming through the turn together....but anyways...i frequent the snake...PCH....just those canyon roads around this area...

Post up a ride in the Socal board and see who shows up.

The snake is a fun road for sure - I was just there a few weeks ago.

We tend to ride 150 and 33 a lot.  Tend to avoid the Snake on weekends,  unless we want our picture taken  [laugh]

I was looking at the map down around the snake and it looks like there are a lot more windy canyon roads down around that area like Latigo canyon rd.  i think i might check that one out this weekend....its like 10 miles of windy canyon that is on the list of best SoCal motorcycle roads....i guess its decently technical....so im looking forward to it. If any of you guys were interested on riding this weekend then let me know  [thumbsup] ill let you guys know for sure when im going to try out these new canyons....if you guys are interested in an adventure exploring some of these then i would be more then happy to have company!  [beer]

Try Decker if you like technical - a lot less drive ways then Latigo.

Roll Eyes i enjoy it but its not an extremely long run....but i just made up a map of what i think im going to do this weekend....starting from westlake blvd going down decker then onto ecinal canyon towards the snake....then instead of going down the snake hanging a right going down latigo canyon road to the PCH, riding the PCH south to tuna canyon rd...then all the way up tuna canyon where you get on old topanga canyon road...which is windy taking you back to mulhulland which i will take all the way back finally going back up the snake and ending at the lookout! 75miles round trip! but it incorporates 3 of the highest rated motorcycle roads in southern california! could be pretty epic! if anyone wants to join let me know!  Grin

This is the route!

Then make the trip to Angeles Crest Hwy (my backyard) - you can do a 120 mile loop from La Canada Flintridge to Wrightwood and back in one morning.

click here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=la+canada+flintridge+shell&sll=34.372912,-117.651215&sspn=0.387084,0.729218&gl=us&ie=UTF8&hq=shell&hnear=La+Ca%C3%B1ada+Flintridge,+Los+Angeles,+California&z=16)

I'll be going up this Sunday morning.

I ride with SEVERAL peeps from the SoCalDMC... from GMR to Ortega hwy, ACH, Boquet Cyn, 23/150/33 and all over Malibu...

I would have to say that it's more like a bunch of friends, not a "club" per se. No dues, mandatory meetings and that other nonsense. Organized large group rides are sparse (Turkeyday ride for example), but things like organized MotoGP viewing parties at RedBull or BBQ party at someones pad are nice.

Yes, many friends get together and ride.... often.

Anyway you slice it MID, you are in moto heaven!  Like lawbreaker noted, there are so many outstanding roads with a short riding distance of you, that you could ride every weekend for a year and never be bored.  And we can ride year round!

Bacon Junkie and I were talking about doing a 5-counties loop (about 300 miles) sometime soon, so keep an eye out for a posting on the SOCAL forum.

By the way..."WELCOME TO THE PARTY PAL!"

MonsterInDark,  Tuna Canyon is a great road, BUT, it's one-way from the top down.

Try going up las Flores, right on Piuma, right on Scheuren, past Stunt, continue on Saddle Peak Rd.  When you get to the stop sign, turn right onto Tuna.  After about a mile or so, it turns into a one way.  We sometimes do "coaster" races there...  :o [evil]

YEs new to ducati's as well....always been in love with them...but first time and now will be a life long lover of these bikes....did the ride on sunday with a buddy on a harley....even with my girl riding 2up with me he couldnt keep up with me through decker and latigo canyon.....and I LOVED LATIGO!!! such a great road...accept it gets a little rough towards the bottem...cant wait to kick the little lady off and have a go at it without worrying about her on the back...but i wish i would have read the post about tuna canyon before i went lol....i realized it was a one way when i turned up the road and saw all the dirt and rocks on the right side of the road....not the mention the HUGE WRONG WAY SIGN  [bang] lol....but we went up old topanga canyon which i had never rode before and it was nice! then i got caught behind a slow A$$ BMW on the snake...utterly ruining my arguably favorite part of the ride  :'( but all in all it was a fun run....would definately do it again...even though the ride actually came out to being 110 miles... [Dolph]

So ALL of you that want to ride! Lets go! and that roller coaster races....let me know about that!! i wana go!  [bow_down]

I almost always head up ACH on Wednesday or Thursday. There's almost no traffic and I think I've seen one [leo] in 6 months.

I've posted up a few mid-week rides but I guess I'm the only one off during the days?

The more the merrier!   [thumbsup]

MonsterInDark, if you ever wanna go during the week let me know. I'm almost always free during the day.

Post up for a future ride and I'll try to make it.
