Hi all, got a set of mid mount mivvs put on the other day (great sound). It stalls at idle sometime now. It's been around 100 degrees here and the stalling happens at stop lights. My dealer upped the idle from 800 to 1100 and bumped up the CO. Still died occanisionally. Took the pc out of the system and am currently running on the orginal map.
I was told that my pc can't be adjusted anymore. It is old, about ten years. It has a serial port on it instead of a usb and I'm told that my bike 2000 ie has an eight pin computer and the new one are i think 24. I trust my dealer. the power commander may or may not be the problem since it still cuts off at idle. What can I check and should I get a new power commander just because mine is old?
Also I'm running pods and the tech said that my current map(s) may not be able to handle the the amount of air flow throughthe system, a newer pc would change that? What is an eight pin system as apposed to a 24 pin system? He said mine is like windows 98 and the newer ones are like windows 7.
Thanks
FIM used to have a re-flash for those ecu's.
With the intake mods you definitely need some more fuel.
http://www.silverbackperformance.net/ (http://www.silverbackperformance.net/) might be able to help. They're Ducati Minneapolis now.
I would contact Dynojet directly. They may be able to help you with your serial port PC. This assumes you have access to a computer with a serial port. http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/Contact/powercommander_technical_support.aspx (http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/Contact/powercommander_technical_support.aspx) lists PC2 and non USB PC3.
well, i guess my laptop has one but I will probably not know what i'm doing. I do very little stuff to my bike. This is thefirst time anything has happened. I'm currently thinking new power commander since mine is so old.
Would a new one be able to increase the fuel? Iam still confused as to the 8 pin vs 24 pin computer that theolder bikes have. Can the old (2000) computers be upgraded or does a new map on an upgraded pc just override the map that i'm running now?
thanks for helping

The older version Marelli ecu's were termed 1.5 or 1.6 and were pretty rudimentary. They had very few zones and did not have the flexibility of the newer 5.9 ecu's. I believe that is what your dealer is referring to when they say 8 pin or 24 pin.
They are not interchangeable and you really can't upgrade your bike to the newer ecu.
That leaves a re-flash of your ecu, or a PC. The PC you have
should work to correct your problems by adding fuel to the existing map unless it is broken.
I wouldn't replace it unless it isn't working.
Does your dealer have an EGA?
don't know what an EGA is.
my current ecu won't allow anymore fuel to be added apparently. But I don't know whether it really won't allow it or they just don't have the needed serial port reader. I should find out! I'll call him wednesday and see what he says.
Thanks

Exhaust Gas Analyzer
I guess the map in that ecu could be lean enough that it won't handle pods and exhaust.
I'd go for the FIM re-flash and then if it's still lean you could use the PC to add more fuel.
