Got few questions:
How much is it for first 600 mile service on m696, coleman quoted me $330. They quoted me like $300 to do 14t sprocket, so bit skeptical about them.
Also I am trying to get an appointment at ducpond for this friday to do tailchop kit ($350 installed ).
Is there anyone riding that way this friday? It be really nice to go with someone since I never been there and also have someone watch me ride . I'm sure I have few bad habits on riding since I kinda learned on my own.
I need to schedule my 600m service also. Thanks for the reminder.
1) Colemans charges too much, imo. 300USD for a sprocket change is ridiculous.
2) Is it a tail shop, or fender eliminator? You could probably do that yourself and learn a bit about your bike. I've seen a few good how-to threads in the Tutorials.
3) If you do end up having a shop do it, why not have DP do it during the 600m service? You probably save some $$$ that way.
I called DP and they quoted $350 for tail chop and they have in stock. I want to do my service there too but I already got 650 miles on my bike, Idk if i cud ride another around 80 or so miles without doing the first service.
I would love to do it myself and possibly learn ,Its just I dont have time and not wanting to take the chances of screwing up.
You could definitely ride another 80 miles with no mechanical worries. Idk re the warranty stuff.
A sprocket should be about $40 for the part and you can install it in about a half-hour I'd think.

$300 - Do you know how that was broken down? If it's just labor, it's insane. But if it's a new sprocket and high quality chain... that's no terrible. Having just done my chain and sprockets, it ran me a couple hundred in parts.
If one is just swapping a 14t on, it's a 30 min job if you're going slow.
1. bike on rear stand
2. Loosen axle
3. slack chain as much as possible.
4. Remove clutch slave
5. Swap sprockets and reverse steps 1-4
I did 3 folks bikes in under an hour a few years back.
$330 for the 600 mile isn't unheard of. if they are checking the valves it's pretty sane. But I'd like to see details of what they are doing for that price.
I agree of course - a good chain will retail around $200. I guesstimated the half-hour time for a sprocket change for someone who's never done it before.
I didnt get the breakdown, but since my bike has only 600 miles and they know about it, I am thinkin its just a sprocket, unless they change the chain, regardless of condition of the chain.
DP is closed today I am going to call them tomorrow and get estimate, if they are about the same may be just ride there.
I paid $350 for the first service, including 14t sprocket and installation. That was at DucPond and I had 722 miles on my 696.
I'd let Ducpond do the whole thing since you are having them do the tail, assuming they can do it all that fits into your schedule. I'm headed to Barber Friday AM or I would escort you out there, but let me know if you would like some roads to get there via PM. FWIW, changing to a 14T is usually done so you don't have to change the chain, such as you with a brand new chain. But if for some weird reason you need a new chain, it is better to go up to larger sprocket in rear, usually 3 teeth. - Gene
thank you all for info [clap]
Just got appt confirmation from ducpond, they quoted only $260 for first service, $36 for 14t plus half hour labor.
Gene, I will send you an pm, would appreciate a direction as this is the first time I'm heading that way . I'm gettin a hair cut before I leave too , gotta go to the unit on saturday. May be we can get cut together and ride to ducpond . :D
Beer and Lunch on me for any escort .
Sorry for the confusion, I cannot escort you beacuse I'm headed to Barber Motosports - in AL, for AMA races, 5 days of twisty mountains roads. When you send me the PM let me know where you are starting from and how quickly you want to get there, a straight route from Reston is 1 hour, I usually get there in more like 1 1/2 - 2 hours. - Gene
Got your pm . Thank you sir
Thank you Gene for the direction , it was a very good ride, will prolly go back that route again soon.
Did the first service, 14t and tail chop kit all for $650.
Glad it worked out for you, glad to help a CAMer. - Gene
Didn;t want to post a new thread... Most possibly be going to duc pond this friday any one else heading that way from around DC Metro..
Getting a rise bar as per recommendation of sadpanda. [clap]
