Title: Front Sprocket retainer missing...
Post by: Timmy Tucker on June 14, 2011, 08:35:40 PM
So I stopped for a smoke today while riding and noticed that the front sprocket retainer clip and the 2 bolts that hold it in place are missing. Not sure how long they've been missing, as I replaced the back tire a few weeks ago and know for a fact that I put them back on.

A few questions...

Is this an item that needs locktite? I've heard people recommend putting red locktite on both the splined shaft and the retainer bolts, is that the right way to do it?

What are the torque specs for the bolts that hold the retainer clip? 99.9999% sure this is why they came off in the first place. I finger tightened them then went to look up torque #'s. Didn't find it, probably got sidetracked and forgot to snug them up.  [bang]

Bike is a '99 M750.

Blue loctite, on the bolts only.

~ 3 ft-lb would do it.
