Just bought a used 696 Monster 2009 and possibly needing a new battery (previous owner did not run bike at all or keep battery tended)... Any tips on new battery/tending. Live in IL and winter storage can be long. Most people I know with non-Ducati bikes have not had battery issues like this???
Fully charge the battery and have it load tested. If it fails a new battery is in order. If it passes reinstall. Either way , put a volt meter across the battery. You want to see 13.5 to 14.5 volts at 3K RPM. A battery is a battery whether it is in a Ducati or a Ford. If it is not maintained during storage it will suffer.

Thanks! They tell me to at least tend the battery every 2wks during winter months/while not riding... Hopefully that will help. By the way- other than this problem, I LOVE this bike!
I also have tiny hand and am thinking about purchasing levers...if anyone has suggestions for that, let me know! Right now I have the Brembo stock levers...

im getting this same error, it cranks like one revolution, then flashes the code, then resets everything in my cluster, except the odometer, and then it starts right up again, so far its done it twice this week, both times it was at lunch time
started right up in the morning...

Check your battery connections and ground.
yup everything was nice and tight... oddly it doesnt happen after i unplug it from the trickle charger, but it really shouldnt need to be on the trickle charger unless its going to sit for longer than a month, in which this one has not
i decided to put a new battery in just for good measure.. man its a PITA to get the tank off
If you still have the old battery fully charge it and get it load tested so you know. There are other possible causes.
well i did test the old battery and it did test good after an overnight session on the maintainer
When my bike flashed that code, I had to replace the voltage regulator/ rectifier to solve the problem.
