I'd really appreciate it. I also went ahead and cancelled my bid on the tank on ebay. I also went ahead and cancelled my bid on the tank on ebay. yes you can. you just need the correct hinge and fuel pump (metal tank takes one kind, plastic another.) i have swapped an 03 metal tank onto my s2r1000 (which came with plastic tank.) further, the only real difference between an 03 m1000 and the s2r is the swingarm (and a plastic tank...) Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: Endless on June 20, 2011, 06:25:02 PM alright, i seen a few s2r1000 gas tanks on ebay. its really different compared to the bottom of the 03 monster 1000. the hinge on the s2r gas tank is not a "ears" design rather a full piece...if that made sense
how did you modify the hinge to make it work? ??? thanks! Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: Endless on June 20, 2011, 06:29:10 PM I am looking to get this piece to fit on my 2003 monster 1000....

Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: Speeddog on June 20, 2011, 08:37:42 PM What's wrong with the tank you have now?
Regarding swapping from a steel tank to a plastic tank... Short Answer: Don't bother, it's a huge PITA and will be expensive. Long Answer: Parts that will swap Fuel cap Rubber frame mounts Latch Hinge pin, washers and clip Parts that will not swap and/or you'll have to buy All of the parts inside the tank: Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, hoses, clamps, etc. Fuel bulkhead Fuel line quick disconnects Hinge plate You will have to remove your external fuel pressure regulator... or at least plumb around it. Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: Endless on June 20, 2011, 08:54:15 PM reason for the swap idea is because my tank is dented probably a 6/10 condition. I am also considering the body shop route and just have them repair the cosmetics of the tank as best they can...i think that will save me a lot of back and forth work.
Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: Speeddog on June 20, 2011, 09:19:33 PM Post a picture or two of your tank... unless it's leaking or crunched bad, it's going to be cheaper and easier to repair.
Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: herm on June 20, 2011, 10:24:26 PM alright, i seen a few s2r1000 gas tanks on ebay. its really different compared to the bottom of the 03 monster 1000. the hinge on the s2r gas tank is not a "ears" design rather a full piece...if that made sense how did you modify the hinge to make it work? ??? thanks! you don't. each tank (plastic and metal) has a two parts to the hinge. one is part of the tank, either molded into the plastic, or welded onto the bottom of the metal. the other piece is bolted to the bike. as you noted, the hinges are not the same for the two. but the bolt pattern on the bike frame will accept either one. all that aside, take the advice from Speeddog and fix the metal tank if at all possible. there are way to many down sides to the plastic tank. just make sure and treat the inside of the tank with POR, and have the hinge area braised to reinforce the welds. Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: Howie on June 21, 2011, 02:22:44 AM Our own ducpainter will make that tank better than new. The hinge will be reinforced, the insides treated with POR 15 plus dent repair and paint will be done correctly. Depending on your budget, custom paint is an option.

Could you quote me on how much it will take to restore this tank? I'm quite interested...I will also take into consideration sending the tank to you..safely. all I want is to get it restored to its fresh-off-the-lot condition. Asking $375. It's the same gray you've got there with a little airbrushed checker flag on the side. I got it for a project (making another chrome tank) that never materialized.
hell I've got a few tanks, but I will likely keep one. I'll bet you the cost of the tank that it fits fine too (hint, I wrote the bit of info on tanks that Herm copied from the other board, so I wouldn't bet against me) Or go with Nate, cause he does nice work. One of the other tanks I've got, he did. Best of luck regardless Title: Re: Question about Ducati Monster Gas Tanks (2003+) Post by: herm on June 21, 2011, 01:41:28 PM I've got an extra Senna tank that's perfect if you're insterested.
