Title: Tank Removal Question
Post by: NorDog on June 21, 2011, 09:02:52 AM
So I went to take off my tank ('07 S4RS) and I really didn't know what to do with the two fuel line connections at the bottom of the flange.  I figured if I fiddled with them a bit I could figure it out, but then I thought, "Do these connections have self sealing check valve type gizmos in 'em, or will whatever fuel there is remaining in the tank gonna come spashing out all over my bike?"

So two questions:

1) Just how do you disconnect those lines?

2) Do I need to be prepared for fuel to rush out of the fitting once the lines are off?

Thanks,
Norris

I use a pair of long and skinny needle-nose pliers to squeeze the ring, that pushes the hook-tabs out enough that they release from the fitting.
That, combined with a wiggle and pull action will get them out.
Try to hold them straight, push against the hose a bit as they try to cock the fitting.

A small quantity of fuel will come out, but not the whole tank.
Put two folded up shop rags underneath.

Give the O-rings a careful visual inspection for damage.

A little WD-40 or silicone spray on the O-rings will help for putting 'em back on.
