Title: Ducati 2001 monster 750 12k??????
Post by: gagans23 on June 22, 2011, 11:25:41 AM
Hello everyone, i just bought a 01 750 and love it. The person I bought it from had the 6k service record, and but not the 12k because the shop that did it,  closed down. Is there any way I can inspect the bike to see if 12k service has been done, please notify me. I really don't want to spend $600 for something that has been done already.

Most important are the valves and belts since they're due every 12k.

If you have the tools you can check the valve clearances yourself.

For the belts, just remove the belt covers and check to make sure there isn't any dry rot, cracking, fraying or the like.

You should probably do an oil change to be safe.

Chain and sprockets, check for wear on the sprocket teeth and rust and/or binding on the chain.

do any and everything you can to start your own point of service reference to base from instead of what was or may have been done in the past...that way you get the best piece of mind.

I inspected the belts, today they still had the red ducati mark, and lettering on it, I'm thinking that the service has been done. Because for a 11 year old bike, the belt should of been chewed up, if they weren't replaced. Can anyone tell me how to get to the valve, and check the clearance?

If you do not know the age of the belts replace them.  If a belt breaks the repair may be more than you paid for the bike.  Also change all fluids and look at the age of the tires.  The DOT number on the tire will tell you when the tire was manufactured:

DOT JKL4 BZFC 5107
50    Manufactured during the 50th week of the year
05    Manufactured during 2005

If the tire is 5 years old or older replace it.
