Saw this on wimp.com

A bad time to lose your steering wheel.

(I don't suppose there's really a good time, but that looks particularly bad.)

That would be scary!

Elyse - did you hit the friend in the head with the steering wheel to remind them to put it back on next time?

Happened to me too. Bought an 85 Olds' Toronado off my buddy for $100. He couldnt get it to run right. Had like 48,000 miles on it, like a brand new car... I put a $60 intake manifold gasket on it, and it ran like a top. Turns out though that he used keep the steering wheel on his one wall. He put it back on... and never tightened the nut holding it in place... Just hand tight... I'm driving down the highway, maybe doing 65... lean back to my back seat to grab something and BOOM.. damn thing just comes off... i grabbed the stud where it was supposed to be and held it steady while i jammed the wheel back on... it's pretty hysterical really...

yeah & it was a standard & i had to downshift.. & without a steering wheel i ended up from the far right lane, through 4 lanes of traffic, into the divider filled with oleander bushes. but then once i was stopped i was able to pop the steering wheel back on & drive off the freeway.

my friend has definitely never lived that one down.

the moment your steering wheel pops off & you're just sitting there staring at it in disbelief is a moment you never quite get over :)

Lesson of the day:

Always keep a pair of vise-grips within reach while driving.
