Title: Red key = will not mobilize "immobilized" bike
Post by: Betlog on June 24, 2011, 03:02:58 PM
I've done as much research on this as I can and I have found varying reports on whether or not the red key will reset a bike's immobilizer.  So for those who have had first-hand experience?  Will the red key start a bike where the immobilizer has locked it down?

In the manual it say's you need to use the code card to remove the immobalizer. The red key is used to reprogram the black spare keys.

Just out of curiosity, how would one go about resetting the immobilizer using the code card?

I don't remember seeing a magnetic strip on mine...

Just wondering...

Thanks.

You input the code by using the throttle, so if it says six you twist the throttle 6 time's.  Repeat this process with the rest of the numbers.

Check the connections for the antenna ring around the keyhole.
Odds are water has gotten into it.
If the transmitter/reciever can't see the key it won't unlock!   ;)

If the immobilizer is tripped, regardless of whether or not you use a valid black key, you would still need to use the electronic code (via throttle).  The question is - if the red key is used, will this be equivalent to using a black key+entering the code WITHOUT having to unlock via throttle inputs?  In other words, if I lost my code card and the immobilizer trips, can I use the red key to unlock the bike rather than black key+throttle inputs?

From what i read in the manual the only way is to use the code card, the red key will not remove the immobilizer.

So if you lost the code card i think you are f****d. There might be another way to remove it and if there is i am sure someone will post it. Sorry i can't be of more help, goodluck with that.

I'm curious, when someone speak of "resetting the immobilizer using the code card," does this mean you--in a sense--start over with virgin gauges, EUC, etc., and go through the red key/black program sequencing.

Or, is the code card trick simply a temporary override?

The gauges and everything else stays just the way they are, the code only has one purpose and that is to remove the immobilizer. It is also like a ID for the bike each bike has there own unique card.

"code only has one purpose and that is to remove the immobilizer."

When you say "remove the immobilizer," you mean permanently remove it, or only for that one time--and only for each time you do the throttle-twist trick?

Ouch.  That would be the answer I don't want to hear.  Can anyone else confirm?

its only for that one time.  There are no official ways to permanently disable the immobilizer once the gauge has mated with the ECU.

out of curiosity, what year bike is it? and was your bike out in the rain at all?

it might be possible that the code can be recovered from ducati by knowing the vin.

The immobilizer has not tripped yet *knock on wood*.  I'm just curious to know if others have been able to unlock a tripped bike with a red key rather than using the throttle code.
