Ducati Monster Forum

Hello all,

sorry if this has been discussed before, but Im new to the forum and to the whole Ducati thing. I have done the search and found nothing regarding my question close enough. I actually dont own a Ducati myself. What brings me here is my sister, who owns a Monster 696 and asked me to choose some luggage for her. Im in a process of choosing the luggage for my own bike (Aprilia Shiver), so I know its the best to discuss that with people who already have some experience and this is why Im posting here.

Well, she would like to buy a tankbag and a tailbag. The budget is about $350 USD. It should be stuff accessible in Europe, since there has been made some changed to the toll/tax policy in my country and its quite expensive to buy anything outside EU now. The luggage should take stuff for a 4day trip, about 10 liters on the tank (she is quite short, so there should not be any high obstacle on the tank) and about 25-30 litres on the seat. Of course waterproofness is required. I will be probably getting some Kriega stuff myself, so Im particularly wondering if anyone here has experience with those bags on Monster.

This held up great on the 1100 for my trip from AZ to CA last month for the Ducati meet up.  It even stayed on tight after a couple jumps I wasn't warned about until after-the-fact in the middle of a few twists!  Thanks again Bacon!!  [laugh]

However, I did have the smarts to secure both the tank and tailbags with a few more bunges and a cargo net prior to the trip.  I'll see if I can dig up a pic.  

Here you go.  The tank bag is made for my '03 Monster with the metal tank so I used a long bungee to secure the back of it to the frame and two smaller ones to attach to the handlebar.   The tail bag comes with 2 bungees built into it but the bag was sliding during a trial run.  A cargo net and about 5 more bungees did the trick.  Again..it held up solid!!

Check the kriega tail bag and tank bag kit.  Uk company so you can find it in the eu, totally waterproof, modular, and has gotten  amazing reviews and a us40 combo with tank kit is under 350 us

Cortech makes good stuff that's high value for the cost. It's not super fancy, but good value. They aren't waterproof like Kriega stuff, but do come with water proof slip covers. They offer a number of different size tank bags with straps (as opposed to magnets)

- If she's not very tall, a 10L bag might be a bit big - of course that will be tough to figure without a 'test drive'

The cortech back shown by IZ is small, but fits a remarkable amount of stuff. And has a clear panel on the top for maps/turn sheets.

Kriega makes some very nice stuff. It's more Adventure type stuff - but very good. As mentioned it's robust and water resistant. They do make some water proof items - but not all of their line is. Even the items that aren't water proof are very water resistant when all closed up.

As noted, Kriega offers modular set ups so you can tailor the volume.

Kriega doesn't offer a specific tank bag though. They make a mount that goes over the tank that you can attach one of the same packs used for the modular tail pack. back pack add on.

I know this isn't an EU vendor but they stock a lot of bags and might serve as inspiration/research

givi makes a topbox and saddle bag set that will fit perfectly on a monster, check it out and get it, they make great products.

the back packs are the ones that arent fully water proof, cept the r30 i think... the tailbags are totally waterproof roll tops though.  that's another one of those give and takes though... getting stuff out of a rolltop is a lot less convenient than a zip up.

Kriega packs are nice!  I'm wearing the Hydro II pack in the pic I posted and have the 10Liter attached along with the cube pocket. I'm sure their tank and tail bags work great too. The US distributor is here in the PHX area. Check him out at Matrix Moto. 

I've been considering the Kriega US30 tail bag but wonder if at 44cm long it might be impractically long for the 696/706 tail. Anyone had a go? Perhaps it can be fitted across the tail?

Hong Kong is hot and sticky at this time of year, and ditching my backpack for an Ogio tail pack has made all the difference to my comfort on the road. But the Ogio is a touch small for a full size ThinkPad plus shoes, trousers, shirt, etc, which is what I need to carry on a daily basis.

I think the Kriega US30 would be great upgrade as long as it can be properly fitted to the Monster's tail without flopping down over the brake light.
