Can anyone confirm the condition of Highway 1 north of Big Sur?  Caltrans site says one way controlled traffic at the location of the collapse.  Heading up to Atascadero/Paso Robles area and I would like to make a run up the coast to Monterrey and back via Carmel Valley Road.
Thanks!!

Hey Orange, I live in Atascadero! While I have not been on the 1 that far north since the closure this year I did go up quite a bit before the closure. If you have not been in the last year or so the one way closures are simply a stop light giving a chance to lane share past the cars ;-) If you end up going up the one please report back as to the conditions. I plan to go up the 1 and home Carmel Valley for the GP in a few weeks.

[thumbsup]  Thanks Scott!  A post on another forum resulted in a report that the road is fine, just the stop-lights as you mentioned.  Cant wait!  It's been six years since I was on Hwy 1 in a car, and 25 years since I was on it on a bike!!  I plan to relish it =)
I am going to ride Nacimiento-Fergusson as well...road is open, and the Army says there are no maneuvers this weekend.  Hmmmm...G-roads to Ligget, over N-F to the coast, up the 1, lunch in Carmel, then back via Carmel Valley and more G-roads. [Dolph]
My friends live on the south side of Attascadero, closer to Santa Maria.

Would this not be better located in one of the regional boards?

Why? Do we need to make room for another thread about the tail of the dragon or something?

I did post in the board for the region and received no responses.  Also noticed that the last posting there was April 13.

				I like eggs  ;)
Enjoy your trip and ride safe - - I have been told that there is much more law enforcement on Hwy 1 than in the past so ...........

It's been a couple weeks since I've gone down 1... might take the wife for a drive tomorow and check for you.  Last I was there, it was still closed south of the road that goes through Ft. Hunter Liggit.

				Awesome ride guys!!!
Rode THE ONE from Morro Bay to Bixby Bridge and back on Saturday.  Road is open with three spots that have signals to control traffic through construction.  The lights are great!  Get to the front and you are assured of at least 5 minutes of riding without another vehicle in front of you!

I rescind my original snarky comment.

No.
But we could use more "Ducati's are crap. My 696 is flaking paint from the steering stops and I have sand in my shorts" threads.
Seriously, I thought that one was hilarious until it got locked.

				^^  [laugh]
Thanks for the update orangelion, and glad you had a great ride!

On my way home from Atascadero Sunday, I meandered a bit, discovering and re-discovering a few really nice roads.  For anyone riding from Socal to CentCal along the coastal ranges,  check out the following:
Lompoc-Casmalia Road  (Black Road)
San Antonio Road East, and West
Harris Grade Road
Santa Rosa Road  (I think they filmed some of the scenes in Death Proof along here)
Just east of Santa Ynez:  Armour Ranch Road, Happy Canyon Road

				I like bacon.
I think the thread belongs here, as anyone who travels to California is likely to want to ride the 1 if they have time.  I sure would!
