Title: is there a BMW forum at least slightly similar to the DMF...?
Post by: Bergweiserus on July 01, 2011, 12:06:21 PM
hey guys & girls.....i am possibly picking up a K12GT with tons of awesome modifications & i am wondering if
there exists a BMW forum similar to the DMF.  I went to the I-BMW forum and found lots of great information
about the bikes, lots of technical info etc....BUT that place is riddled with hyper-stupid hillbillies for
some strange reason i cannot figure out.

any help is greatly appreciated and I DO KNOW THAT there is no other forum as great as this one  [evil]

local here is bmwbmw.org, but perhaps there are some ways to find a more and better spread out regionally site...

I've had an 07 K12GT for a couple of years now and really like it. Good luck on the purchase.

Try this forum www.k-bikes.com (//http://)  I'm not there a bunch, but they seem friendly and helpful.

Also, if you're on FB, look up:  Shiva BMWsuperbikes

(The guy whose page this is works at BMW is a primary goodwill/PR guy for motorrad.)

Well, I may be biased but for my time I'd also check out

advrider.com

Lots of hand on guys, there are subforums for KTM, BMW, vintage bikes, etc.  Pretty level headed for the most part.  Probably the reason I have two Beemers in the shed right now.

If you're not careful, you'll get hooked.  Plus Beemers are more reliable than out balloon tank Italian jobs.  [roll]

The shop I work at picked up a Boxer Cup Replika last year. I've been the only one to ride it and so far I've just put 30 miles on it. A month ago they bought a R1100S which I've put almost 100 miles on. They are surprisingly good. Statically heavy but once moving a whole lot of fun!  [Dolph]

I would advise reading up on the cam chain failures for the K12GT.  I sold my 07 before that came up.  Tough bike to service and maintain.

Compared to what bikes?

My S2R hasn't moved since its gas tank has swelled and rendered it unusable.

In contrast I have a R1200GS and a 1200 Megamoto, both of which have had less than 50% the expense of owning a Ducati.

Yes, they don't 'look' like sexy bikes on paper, but as MadDuck noted they are incredibly fun when moving.  The Mega beats either of my Monsters hands down and is far far far more reliable.

i think the 06 and 07 had troubles for some reason....this is an 05 whose only trouble were the cooling fans not kicking in at high temps.......has been fixed.   can't wait to start criss-crossing the US & Mexico by bike  [evil]
