Title: Motorcycle Anorexia Post by: koko64 on July 04, 2011, 10:28:27 PM On account of being sick as a dog and alone at home I ask your indulgence.
Firstly a disclaimer. As a father of daughters, anorexia nervosa is a bad thing. But like many of you on the forum, I think it's great for motorcycles! :D Going nuts at home and having to stay warm, I went over some old notes regarding the weight loss program for the M900. I was amazed at how all the little things add up when you are trying to improve the look of your bike and remove everything bar the necessities. Firstly the obvious things like: Termis -3kg Shorai Battery -5kg Vee Two/Barnett Clutch -1.9kg Machined flywheel -1kg Carbon Guard -500g K&N Pods replace air box -1.5kg Then some of the less obvious things like: Changed mirrors and bar ends (I shortened my bars an inch or so) -544g Rear seat cowling and bolts -560g CV carb breather pods, cables and choke lever -133g (I run a single cable to the FCRs, I forgot to weigh the FCRs and CVs against each other, FCRs could be heavier for all I know) Small indicators -120g Vee Two alloy pulleys -110g Smaller horn -200g Solenoid bracket -66g Ohlins fork spring-300g Ignition Bracket -200g Seat lock -180g Cylinder fin bungs (look like minature kangaroo poo) -70g Mikuni rectangular fuel pump -100g Tail chop and trim, rear guard, beer tray, number plate holder and light, reflector, etc. Small brackets, trimmed battery box, mini fuel filter, lighter (and better) tool kit, tool box lid, cable guides, use of alloy and Ti bolts. -1kg (some stuff was thrown away so I couldn't weigh it so I'll be conservative). Some of that nasty plastic is quite heavy. There is more but I'm trying to find my notes, but you get the idea. It adds up. Sorry to ramble on, but I'm bored. Cheers. Title: Re: Motorcycle Anorexia Post by: hillbillypolack on July 06, 2011, 04:01:58 PM I did that weight loss program on my M900 a few years ago. The bike now weighs 380 with a full tank of gas and fresh oil change.
Oh and a quick tip. Don't try to go for that light weight battery, especially if it's a road bike. You'll need that extra 'oomph' when it's 48 degrees and you're 75 miles from home. Title: Re: Motorcycle Anorexia Post by: koko64 on July 06, 2011, 04:10:37 PM Wow HP, 380lbs, that's 172kg with gas. That's about 160kg wth an empty tank?
What were your main areas of weight loss? Title: Re: Motorcycle Anorexia Post by: bikepilot on July 07, 2011, 05:33:48 AM That battery will have more oomph than the stock led acid, no worries there [laugh]
Title: Re: Motorcycle Anorexia Post by: Link on July 07, 2011, 06:04:06 PM If you still have the stock Brembo front rotors you can loose 2lbs of un sprung weight with some Galfers. That is some weight loss you will feel instantly.
Title: Re: Motorcycle Anorexia Post by: koko64 on July 07, 2011, 06:17:10 PM Would definately go light aftermarket rotors considering the cost even of OEM second hand down here. When stuff needs replacing, performance aftermarket is the rule for me. [thumbsup]

Title: Re: Motorcycle Anorexia Post by: koko64 on July 08, 2011, 12:04:01 AM Thanks DarkStar.
Got the lot now and saved it in my performance folder. Was good to see I was conservative on the tail chop given the weight of each component. |
